rewatched Fedor vs Rizzo

Ok, I know Rizzo is old but this KO is just art. And yes, I'm paraphrasing Jack Slack.

Fedor kicks Rizzo hard. GIF is kinda fast but in video you can see him then hesitate for a moment and it's almost like he can sense Rizzo is hurt from the kick and its time to attack.

Still he is cautious. Beautifully fakes a left, then hits hard with the right and then the left again (and again and again) and its over. The timed aggression is just amazing.

Imo this fight proves that Fedor still has his ability, but had shitty training camps and wasn't taking the right steps with his body and diet when he started to lose.

Imo his reflexes have always been there. He just got lazy with training as he started looking a little softer.

Lets look at the Gary Goodrich fight from 2003. Gary Goodrich was 36 years old. At that point Gary was a tough guy with a few good wins, but with a 17-14 record could arguably be placed in the Journeyman's category with his best years behind him.

Fedor 2003

Now Lets look at Fedor vs Pedro Rizzo from 2012. Pedro was 37 years old with a 19-9 record. He also had some really good wins in his day and even fought for the UFC HW strap three times; but his best years were behind him and he was also slipping into that Journeyman's category.

Fedor 2012

Keep in mind that these fights are 9 years apart with opponents that are pretty much the same age, The same skill level and at the same point in their career. Fedor looks a little softer in the Rizzo fight and is a little more hesitant to unload, but there isn't a noticeable difference in Fedor's Movement. Which leads me to believe that Fedor's ability has always been there.

Well he's def slower and more hesitant w Rizzo. The aggression w Goodridge is just unbelievable. The Rizzo fight is over so quick its unclear if he could maintain that pace.

But still, he is steamrolling the lower end fighters. It's not even close. Which makes me think he could at the very least hang in the UFC, if not dominate.

Then again maybe he's aware of the level and simply doesn't want the battles and brain damage. He prolly wants to enjoy some minor competition, crush some cans, make lots of money and get out of the sport with a brain still in tact. Hunt's doing good but with the battles he's seen, I wonder if he'll able to talk in a decade. Look what happened to poor Goodrich.

I think Hunt will be fine due to the size of his melon:D

Its silly to think that Fedor is the same guy in 2012 as he was in 2003 just because he was able to impressively KO a bum in both stages of his career. The GREATS have flashes of brilliance late in their career that can sometimes even be reminiscent of their peak form. Kobe Bryant just scored 60 points in his retirement game and looked like a "Prime" Kobe. That doesnt mean we should post videos of that and videos of him 2001-2005 to say "Hey guise, look Kobe still has it!!! He just got lazy!" etc

Its obvious Kobe can still play ball and Fedor can still fight but it doesnt mean they are what they were a decade ago just because they still have flashes of brilliance.

Fedor is 39 and Kobe 38.

Old men in young man sports.

That GnP on Rizzo was an absolute delight though.

Look, I 100% believe Fedor would take a one-shot deal for a fight w Werdum. He just doesn't want to be tied up in a multiple-fight contract.

A lot of it is cultural differences. In Pride, Fedor was Boss. With UFC, Dana is Boss. And it's more than fighting, they own your image, you have to do promotions and they market you however they want, you have no say.

There's nothing wrong with this but to Fedor whose used to being brought flowers before a show in Japan and then walking off whenever he wants... telling him he has to interview with Rogan afterward, and do media pressers before and after, is seen as tyrannical to him.

And the UFC also pays a lot in PPV. Russians are deeply distrustful of indirect business deals. He'd prolly make way more $ w the UFC hype machine behind him but you tell a Russia that well pay you more in commissions and they think your trying to cheat them.

And, of course, Dana had to open his mouth, which was very insulting to someone conservative like Fedor.
Still with the facts the UFC signed CM Punk and gave James Toney a one fight deal IDK why the UFC wouldn't just offer Fedor a one-shot deal at Werdum with no contract. A few years ago when there was some great HW floating around in SF I could see this being a bad idea for them. Now that they have the market locked down I see them losing little in such a proposition. Even if Fedor wins, no way he will be able to make a promotion that will rival the UFC. All the HWs are locked in. It would just make the UFC a sh** ton of $.

As a matter of fact, I think this may just come to play out. UFC offering Fedor a Werdum rematch, one-shot deal. Even if Werdum loses to Stipe it would still be interesting.

The Maldonado fight will answer some questions for sure. Not that I think Maldonado is a threat (against a guy like Fedor) but the way Fedor will fight will answer some questions for sure. because the jaideep fight was a joke and it ended fast (as it should have) and we didn't really see at what place Fedor is right now.

My grandmother could have KO'd Rizzo at that point in his career.

Yes the Jaideep fight was a joke... no way should Fedor have been fighting that high a level of competition after so many years in retirement.

JAideep is carrying on the legacy of Satish Jha
