I have been laid up for a month, so I have been watching a lot of bjj DVDs. I own a load of them.
I got a copy of Roylers new one and have to say I really like it. It shows about seven takedowns and four sweeps.
They have a narrator talking over old footage of Royler using the technique they are highlighting in a tournemrnt. Then it's royler and megaton showing it in a gym over and over from different angles. Then back it the tournement footage all the time the narrator is giving the key points
Now, the downside is the sweeps are not really ones that may come up often. They are shown in the same format as the takedowns. I haven't gone over them much
For thirty bucks, and you want to improve your take downs with some great modifide judo trips and throws get it.
If you have any questions about this or any other DVD I have(I think I have almost everything) just ask

Do you have Igor's yakimov leg lock dvd set? What do you think of telles turtle guard dvd set? If you could choose one bjj dvd which one would it be?

I don't have the leg lock one. Telles DVD is not the best quality and why do they have to not wear shirts. Seriously it is a little specialized for me. The best by far is jiu jitsu revolution 1 by Saulo Ribeiro. I love it and it really changed my game. It has a lot of theory with concepts. I'm not really good enough for real specialized DVDs. Seond would be the damion Maia first series
Edit If I had to get just one dvd it would be Stephen Kestings Dynamic Omoplata

Thanks for the great info I have the saulo dvd.. I have already used his mount defense and a some of his guard sweeps. He covers so much material and his dvd's are great. I liked his 1st dvd on the mount position but all 6 of his dvd's in that set are great.

I got the Roy dean bluebelt one also but that was a little basic for me. Great for a beginner. ( I am a new bluebelt btw)

I have the telles one on the way. I got a good deal on it through ebay for 60 dollars and I find myself in the turtle alot of higher belts especially since my guard isn't the best.

I want to add leglocks to my game being that they are non existant.

I may have to look into the omoplata dvd. I never even go for omoplatas in training. Never even caught anyone in an omoplata.

Kesting has a leglock dvd also that is great. I never did omoplats either until this dvd and now its one of my goto moves. Stephen Kesting is the man and I think the leglock dvd might be right up yout alley

Do you have the Roy Harris "Jiu jitsu over 40"? It's the only one I own. I've only watched it a couple of times. I thought it was pretty good.

How'd you get hurt?

Cash Bill- Roy Harris stuff is amazing- I like his over 40 set and Im 26.

I would have to reccomend Robson Moura Fusion and Gustavo Dantas- I like thier innovation and style.

I also like the SUBMISSION in the bonus footage on the Royler DVD- anyone see the latest Royler DVD?

I've seen this set mentioned a few times. If you don't mind my asking, what makes this set better for the over 40 crowd? Is it specific techniques that are less attribute based, strategies, more emphasis on defense? Thanks in advance!

It's filled with defensive postures and positioning. I haven't watched it in a long time. I like to attack and take chances, so I don't follow the system very well. I'll watch some today to refresh my memory.

Honestly, I have a hard time integrating moves other than the ones I have learned in class. If I am looking for something specific I can Youtube or Google it. However, I did learn the Brabo/Darce from Aesopian.

edit...I just watched a little. He shows ways to conserve energy and wait for the right moment to escape bad positions.

I really enjoyed the production value of Royler's instructional, I also like the concept of showing the moves in competition - that's sweet. I just think he could have done A LOT better going into detail than having some narrator talk over the footage. It was too short for my liking as well. He says there's (only) going to be 4 DVD's so I hope he does another set sometime down the raod.

Anybody got the 2nd Volume yet? Guard and Halfguard Passes...

You are right about it being short. I just chalked it up to being only twenty some dollars. I really liked the format. It was enough detail for me.
I will get the next one. I won some budovideo.com bucks from a tourny I won so I will get it as soon as it's out

I've got Royler's guard passing dvd and to me it was worth the money. I picked up a couple subtle details that I was missing on a couple passes. I like how they show Royler using each move in competition as well.

But, if I had to get one dvd on passing it probably wouldn't be this one. I like Saulo's dvd on passing and Galvao's dvd on passing better (although both of those are in sets).

Nice, thanks! I'm the same way, Im not much for taking moves from instructionals but I always enjoy hearing about theory and such (timing stuff, etc...) so maybe I'll check this out.

i'd totally get his half guard and guard passing instructional since royler had a monsterous top game. but takedowns from royler? can't you learn tkdowns from a wrestling instructional from one of the US olympic guys?
