I read an article on Men's Health or something the other day that mentioned you should not run/do leg lifts every day during the week without a rest day.

I am currently running 3 days a week and doing leg lifts on seperate (squats/lunges/leg press/calves/etc) 1-2 times a week. On days I do not run I either use the eliptical or bike for 30 minutes.

Should I skip out a day on the eliptical or bike for the rest day? Or should those not be included since they don't really seem to be as much of a strenuous workout as running and lifting?

Sorry I don't remember where the article was and I couldn't find anything in the stickies pertaining to a similar situation.

i would guess that if you're not in pain/ walking around with jello legs from all the work then you should be fine. do you feel your progress is hindered by not having a rest day?

Why do you do lunges/leg presses/calves in the first place? And why do you read men`s health? What I`m thinking is that if you don`t see results it`s because your training program needs a major overhaul rather than some minor adjustment.
Then again to answer your question. I assume you take 1 day a week off at least, right? If you do that then just what KLudwig64 said.

If you are a beginner, you are going to see results anyways. Realistically you are over training and there is no logical reason why you would need to work out your legs that much. If you cannot hardly step out of bed, then you did not train hard enough the day before. Train hard, have good rest periods, keep your protein up and your diet in check.

Any particular muscle worked on more than 2 times a week is over training, or you're not training hard enough.

I have learned after many years of training that taking 1 day out of the week to rest completely is the best way to let your body recuperate (at least fro me). I usually take Sundays off and do not do any exercise, just enjoy the day with family and friends hanging out.

lol THIS. My legs hurt so badly after my leg day. I stretch a lot before and after. I can usually tell if I didn't go hard enough. It's usually:

Squats
Leg Press
Stiff DLs
+1 hamstring machine
x2 calf exercises

DL's on back day.

.75-1 g protein/kg and sleep at least 7-8 hours. GG.
