With the recent surge of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rafael Dos Anjos, a lot of people forgot about Tibau, who despite a hiccup against Dunham, has been on quite a quiet streak himself. Not only does Gleison hold a win over RDA L, but he arguably holds a win over Khabib, not to mention he was able to easily stuff all of his takedowns and took him down pretty effortlessly when he committed. For the "best grappler in the division", Khabib looked pretty mediocre against Tibau (though Gleison did too, awful fight).

Since Tibau's fight with RDA, Dos Anjos beat names such as Shalorus, Dunham, Cerrone, and Bocek whereas Khabib rallied a win over Pat Healy, Tavares, and Trujillo. While Tibau's strength of schedule isn't as impressive, it is worthy to note that he was able to win over a rejuvenate Jamie Varner, as well as beat Trinaldo and Cholish. Given his upcoming fight with Michael Johnson (who looked all the part of an elite fighter vs. Lauzon) are we perhaps seeing Tibau turn a new page? Or was he always good enough to contend with the best, though perhaps not be good enough to definitely win (ie. Guillard fight might've been a robbery)

    Thoughts?

Eh that fight against Khabib is a toss up, though I leaned towards Khabib, if they fought again , Khabib would win more handily. That said Gleason is just one really solid gate keeper tight , not going to enter the conversation of elite but is a tough out.

His size certainly doesn't hurt his grappling prowess and ability to manhandle guys, however that cut hurts his cardio big time. I can see him holding the number 10 spot in the top 10 every now and again but nothing more.

It was Khabib's second fight in the UFC against a solid veteran gatekeeper with great TDD. Cut the guy some slack, holy shit..

Tibau will prolly when another decision against Michael Johnson. The guy has fought almost everyone in the 155 division, he's the ultimate gatekeeper in a positive way

I'm really surprised Gleison hasn't gotten farther than he has, I mean the guy has near unstoppable takedowns since he holds the record for it at lightweight

I think in the Dunham fight he gassed so badly because his focus wasn't fully on fighting with his wedding coming up and he tried to cut too much.
He is certainly a stiff test for anyone in the division

His fight with your boy RDA was awesome, especially when he was 2 seconds from knocking him out cold.

I believe Ribaus resume is far better than Khabibs. That being said, Khabib will go much further than Tibau

Tibau is a weird dude to figure out. He's not elite but far from bad.

He had like 20 UFC fights before he turned 30 yet he's only has 1-2 bonuses and his entire UFC fight highlight tape includes nothing but decent takedowns and striking exchanges that most of the time didn't even finish his opponent (in some cases he actually lost the fight).

I don't really know how to describe him (a super legit gatekeeper whose not super exciting ?)

If Tibau's standup was better he would dominate.

Tibau cuts tons of weight so he can beat up smaller people. Yeah I know lots of fighters do the same but he is an extreme example. He weighs 10 pounds more than the next weight class when he fights. I root against him every time he fights.

And conditoning. The huge weight cut pays off early in fights, but he tends to get pretty tired in the 3rd.
