With the recent surge of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rafael Dos Anjos, a lot of people forgot about Tibau, who despite a hiccup against Dunham, has been on quite a quiet streak himself. Not only does Gleison hold a win over RDA L, but he arguably holds a win over Khabib, not to mention he was able to easily stuff all of his takedowns and took him down pretty effortlessly when he committed. For the "best grappler in the division", Khabib looked pretty mediocre against Tibau (though Gleison did too, awful fight). Since Tibau's fight with RDA, Dos Anjos beat names such as Shalorus, Dunham, Cerrone, and Bocek whereas Khabib rallied a win over Pat Healy, Tavares, and Trujillo. While Tibau's strength of schedule isn't as impressive, it is worthy to note that he was able to win over a rejuvenate Jamie Varner, as well as beat Trinaldo and Cholish. Given his upcoming fight with Michael Johnson (who looked all the part of an elite fighter vs. Lauzon) are we perhaps seeing Tibau turn a new page? Or was he always good enough to contend with the best, though perhaps not be good enough to definitely win (ie. Guillard fight might've been a robbery) Thoughts?
