How did you guys choose what political party ur in? Did you just follow what your parents political views were or decided as you were in school (high school + college)?

Sometimes I see ppl who don't know a damn thing about politics and hate trump. It's like in elementary school, where everyone just follows and thinks after one kid.

Anyone really invested in politics don't have a clue. Both Republicans and Democrats are owned by big corps and lobbyists.

No logical or rational person would pick one side because there are good ideals from both sides. Too many grey areas in life to be a prisoner to one party .

I am more anti-democrat than pro-Republican. Republicans are the lesser of two evils.

Republicans and Democrats are both garbage. I like Trump because hes an outsider in politics.

That's the real difference between Trump supporters and haters. Trump supporters just like his non-PC style and enjoy how much he has upset the establishment.

The brainwashed trump haters are tribal, purely partisan people who believe the lies in the media and they think that the people who have been in power and mismanaged the government for years will bring us back to normal.

It's honestly pretty staggering how the left is now in favor of censorship and the surveillance state.

I’m neither but I can’t stand the Democrats and usually vote against them one way or the other

    Democrat.

It used to be that there wasn't a lot of obvious differences and the parties would put a big spectacle on congressional floors for voters then go hammer shit out over some drinks at the bar. Now though it's vastly different. Republicans sold themselves to Newt and Tea Party when Obama was elected and destroyed any semblance of bipartisanship (except when it comes to a Pentagon budget).

Democrats are about equality, healthcare, worker rights.

Republicans are about evangelicalism, guns, white rights.

I heard an interesting story on NPR about how democrats became the party of civil rights. Simulmatics Corporation had told JFK that their data said he would win northern states if he spoke positively of civil rights and got black votes. The New Yorker has an article on it https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/08/03/how-the-simulmatics-corporation-invented-the-future

This is vastly similar to how Trump's 2016 campaign centered around disenfranchising black voters. And it worked greatly for them.

So yeah tl/dr, dems are equality, healthcare, worker's rights. Those three, especially equality in an economic sense, are crucial to a vibrant middle class that can carry the country, again.

I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Since neither party is fiscally conservative, I'm going to back the socially liberal party.

My mom was a Reagan era Republican and switched in the early 2000s.

Increased spending and running trillion dollar deficits is the opposite of upsetting the establishment.

I have none of the take you have on what you consider both parties to center around.

And I'm not surprised by your "hot takes"

Really? One party is actively trying to drop pre-existing conditions coverage for millions, remove a public health insurance purchasing platform, one party still believes in trickledown economics as evidenced by massive corporate tax breaks that resulted in layoffs and stock buybacks...

I can keep going but no amount of evidence will convince you

No, I ignored my parents totally on this issue.
When I was young I was liberal. As I got older and had to feed myself and deal with bills and work in both fancy city and hood environments I became conservative. I despise neo-con, war mongers. I'm conservative in most ways.

    They keys for me:
    1. I believe I can spend my money more wisely than the government can
    2. If a fetus is healthy, once it has a heart beat it has a soul and a right to live and to even post on sherdog

I registered as Republican so I could vote for Ron Paul in the primaries quite a while ago and have been so ever since.

The major issue with American health care is drug pricing. We pay far more than any other country. Period. passing that cost from private companies to the government doesn't alleviate that cost nor does it do try to topple big pharma from making bank off of American lives. Socialised medicine isn't "free". You get that right? The bill gets paid through your taxes and then the government...NOT YOU...decides how much you deserve to fight whichever health care crisis you have. And that is based on the cost of care. If it's too much, you are on your own kid. So the issue here has ALWAYS BEEN health care costs in the United States.

Tell me again which president passed a bill recently to lower drug costs?
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-drugprices-idUSKCN24P2JA

Meanwhile Clinton, Obama and by extension Biden are in bed with big pharma. Obama had 8 fucking years to deal with this. And he was charming but useless.
    https://thehill.com/policy/healthca...on-scraps-controversial-drug-pricing-proposal

Biden's been in government for what? 150 years? (I kid but it's been a fucking long time.) You think he's going to fight drug pricing? and actually FIX health care costs of Americans? Big pharma certainly doesn't think so.

I think you need to keep going...because you just whiffed on your first attempt here.

I grew up in a more conservative, republican family. In high school, I took a “Recent US politics” class and the first thing they had us do is a test to identify where we stand. I was mostly uneducated in politics at the time and considered myself republican due to my family. The test opened my eyes when I found I was actually quite liberal. I started learning a lot more from then on.

As far as party goes, Democrat is clearly the more left leaning of the two, so that’s who I support, even though the party has plenty of issues. The Republican Party seeks to go against nearly all my beliefs, so I have to side with the party that actually has a chance of winning and at least takes a step towards what I would like to see, though the current Democratic platform doesn’t totally line up with my views.
