Replacing cable TV with Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV and Kodi?

I use kodi on a bunch of different devices and don't have any problems. I use a flirc and logitech 650 for the remote on windows, I even have a button set up on my remote to start the kodi program. The Rasberry Pi has CEC so I just use the remote from the tv.
I have mine set up to automatically stream sources so if I wanted to watch Fletch, I just click on Fletch and it automatically picks a stream. I rarely run into a video that stops midway through or fails to find a source. Remember, this is free, you're going to have to put up with a few hiccups.
I have it on a Fire Stick but haven't really used it. It works ok on that $50 Amazon tablet, I haven't had any issues there either.

I bought a Raspberry Pi 2 a few a months ago and have used it for Kodi ever since. I also cut cable since then. I am just wondering how did you go about setting yours up to automatically pick a stream? Sometimes that gets to me if multiple streams don't work.

Also I noticed that you installed Sportsdevil. For some reason it will not allow me to do that. Did you have any trouble when you got it?

I should have said it's only for Genesis. Auto play

At what part did you have troubles installing Sportsdevil?

This is a good thread. We've been thinking about cutting the cord, but I think the sports channels have been a question mark.

I'll probably look into Sling TV. We already have Netflix and Amazon Prime.

We're on Comcast right now. And I've noticed that recently we've bumped into internet usage warnings a couple of times.

Do any of you find that since everything is streaming that you start to run into internet limits? And how do you get around that? Just order a package with more data? I suppose that's why Comcast is starting to do that.

Another option out there, I know it's getting back into pay tv prices, but USTVnow has an app for various devices and an addon for Kodi that has a decent list.
ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC, PBS, My9, A&E, Animal Planet, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, ESPN, FX, Fox News, History, Lifetime, National Geographic, Nickelodeon, Spike, Syfy, TBS, TNT, USA, and AMC for $30 a month, first 3 is $20. Of course channels like fox, nbc, won't be your locals.
For free with there app you can get CW, ABC, FOX, PBS, CBS, NBC, and My9. You do need to sign up for an account though.

Anybody else using Sling TV($20 a month)... it seems like a good Deal?
I've been using slingtv since august. I spend the extra $5 for the sports package. I got to see every College Football game I wanted to. My wife watches HGTV and lifetime on it and I watch history 2. ROKU players have porn apps also if anyone is interested.

I use Kodi / XBMC on an Android TV box, called an M8, I think it's some no name China brand but it's got a quad core processor and I've had no problems. Looks like there's some cheaper options now though like the firestick. I payed about $100 a year ago and it's just a tiny box that runs the Android OS on your TV thru an hdmi cable, and can be used wirelessly or with a wire for Internet access. Just like an anxroid phone you can browse the Web, access play store to download apps, etc. It Comes with a remote but it's frustrating to use, I just picked up a cheap wireless mouse / keyboard combo cause it has two USB outlets on the front.

Whatever you can get that runs kodi should be fine, but I would suggest something that you can use a mouse and keyboard with, it takes forever to Install addons trying to type with the remote, at least my model anyway. With all the addons and custom repositorys available to install on kodi there's nothing you can't really watch, including live sports.

I've had it for a year and don't miss cable one bit. Depending on your ISP though check to see if you have a data cap. It's easy to burn though 300Gb+ a month if you start binge streaming hd content, and they charge for overages.

I'm rocking the chrome-cast. $25 one time investment, I can control what I'm watching with my phone, play games like monopoly from our phones, onto big screen when I have company. It's amazing. Stream UFC.tv, netflix, and also broadcast any Chrome-browser webpage to my TV ( also supports flash).

25 fucking dollars.

Had Kodi for a few months. The remote and the software itself is unreliable as hell. Movies don't load properly, freeze, remote is does weird shit, and sometimes the movie/tv show boots you off and you can never find a stream that actually works without issues. Anyone have an opposite experience with Kodi?

I've only used the remote on the M8, but I imagine it's the same for most. I thought it might just be mine but it sounds like a software issue? Sometimes I just hit buttons And sometimes nothing happens. Then I got a wireless keyboard and mouse and installing apps, searching, etc are a breeze, a million times faster, so I reccomend you pay for something with some USB ports.

I've ocassionly had streams drop but nothing to the point where it's irritating me. Maybe once a week if that, and i watch it pretty much every day. I don't have a problem finding working streams. Genesis and projectfreetv have been very reliable for me, and basically have anything you need, except sports, for that I use sportsdevil mainly

That's why all the ISPs are implementing data caps if they haven't already, and then offer unlimited packages for more money.

I get 400gb a month and have got up to 350, but never gone over. The nice thing about my ISP is if I get close I can log into my account and get rid of the cap until my next bill, but my speed gets reduced to 12Mb/s instead of 30, but I haven't had to do that in the year I've been streaming

I still have cable but between ps4 and my roku I dont need it.. Have Hulu, HBO Go, netflix, crackle, fight pass.. They pretty much cover everything... Thinking about cutting the cord with cable soon.. I just got a good deal and have to stick with it for another year and a half..

none of those look like Canadian tv channels

And thank god for that. I just visited the family back in Canada over the holidays and fuck me do i not miss TV in Canada (not that I ever watched it that much).

I was shocked to see that even TityTV is no longer the sketchy station that it once was.
