Replacing benchpress with close grip?

I have had numerous clients that never do any bench other than DB and close grip. I agree on the shoulder health, and for me and most the strength ends up being equal once form is learned and applied.

You still there baby? I think it's getting hard now.

It depends on what you mean by closegrip. If you mean hands like 6 inches apart, then no, that is a tricep exercise that is hard on the wrists. If you mean shoulder width apart, then that is a fine exercise to focus on, it still hits the pecs hard, and is easier on the shoulder joint than wider grip pressing. I had to focus on them for over a year when I developed sever shoulder pain. And I eventually got stronger on them than regular grip benches. Even now I only go a couple inches wider than shoulder width.

Absolutely nothing wrong with close-grip bench. In the world of functional strength, I see it as more important than the standard flat.

He needs to do more chats, I never thought text could make me laugh so hard.

Really? I tore my AC ligament pretty bad from doing close-grip bench :(
Every time I've tried doing it my collar bone clicks..

I'm confused... you "AC ligament" Would be your Anterior Cruciate Ligament, which is in the knee.... What the fuck did you do brother?

I'm assuming you're talking about something that has to do with your acromio clavicular joint?

Im sure he meant to say AC joint, rather then AC ligament.

I dropped the weight on my knee. I was not using the correct form.
:icon_lol:

I meant to say AC joint :icon_conf

I have just recently changed my training to this exact same thing. I have been doing heavy close grips as my main pressing exercise alternated with heavy military pressing. If I have the energy I may do a few sets of dumbell work but that hasn't happened alot. I want to get my close grip bench over 325lbs before I start moving it back out to normal width. It would be sweet to manage to get around 350lbs on the old close grips especially when I get down to around 185lbs.
