Renzo Gracie and Kazushi Sakuraba will meet again almost 18 years after their classic fight in Pride FC, TheBodyLock’s Jake Nichols reports.

At 51, Renzo has signed with ONE FC and, as he tells Graciemag, he can’t wait to throw down with the Japanese legend who submitted him via kimura at Pride 10 back in 2000. “The fight will be under MMA rules,” he said. “Do you think I’m getting soft or something?”

At the ONE Championship Elite retreat in the Philippines, Gracie confirmed that he has signed with the Asian organization. ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong followed up by saying that Gracie will fight 48-year-old Sakuraba in his debut.

“I don’t know whether Sakuraba is ready, and so the date hasn’t been defined,” Gracie told us. “Maybe I’ll have one fight before fighting him.”

In 2014, Gracie and the “Gracie Hunter” fought for 20 minutes under no-gi BJJ rules at a Metamoris show, with a submission being the only way to claim a win. The fight was a draw.

Didn't they have a lackluster grappling match recently?

Would’ve been stoked for this I dunno 15 years ago. Maybe. Now......meh

Saku is gonna lose, his body is held together with scotch tape and his lungs and liver got miles on them from all his drinking and serial Marlboro reds.

This is just sad. I don't wanna see this. Sakuraba brought the heat and breathed life into MMA in the late 90s early 00s. But he's soooo broken now. I'd hate to see him put himself through another MMA match.

Is this the point where one of Saku's limbs actually falls off, in the ring?

Yea I would've loved to have seen this 10+ years ago. Hespect to both, I love Sakuraba and always will till the day I die, but I DO NOT WANT TO SEE HIM BACK UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT! no no no no no.

Yo I love th we guys to death but I do t want to see this

Why is Saku still fighting MMA?

Jesus. I feel like he shouldn't even be sparring with strikes.

Enjoy the rest of your days by rolling homie.

I wonder if he's taken 10 years off his life? I bet it's at least 5.

Scotch tape? Give him a bit of credit. It's kinesio tape or at worst, duct tape

Will there really be any pride in Renzo beating Saku at this point? Is it really worth waiting until the man is so far past broken to really get the W over him finally?

I would say yes. They'd love any opportunity to avenge a loss.

I don’t think this is a good idea. I love both of those guys and really loved their matches during the Pride era.

I don’t understand why they would do this to themselves. I guess they need the money.

Renzo is rolling in it, Saku got stiffed by Pride from what I’ve heard.

Pride treated Sakuraba very badly and Saku liked fighting too much to not let them.

The way he won the inaugural UFC japan heavyweight tournament while 183 pounds soaking wet with no weight cut was mythical (he told the organizer he was 203 in order to get in); the way he handled fights with yolked monsters like Randleman or Belfort is legendary; but the way his promoters kept repeatedly putting him in the same ring with guys one, two, or even three weight classes above him for the sake of 'big name' matchups was disgraceful, and cut a short a career that could potentially have very well been over a decade of scintillating performances to give to history, akin to or mayhap even bettering what Fedor accomplished at heavyweight.
