Renan told Francis after the press conference that he was only talking about it in a fighting sense and Ngannou accepted it.

In one sense I was impressed here with Francis in that he was smart enough to hone in on Renan's weakness and exploit it, on the other hand though I really believe Francis is turning into GSP where he doesn't want to chance it on the feet any longer and is more than happy to take it down like he did here and with Gane who he couldn't match the foot work which is perfectly fine.

Wtf does that even mean? What does his kid dying have to do with fighting?

Ya there must be some little bullshit controversy now for all the trendy/casuals to stay entertained enough to continue being interested, I can't watch UFC hardly anymore for this reason.

I didn't watch the fight but saw the finish. Dang just scary thinking how it would be having a guy like Francis destroying you while you are in the fetal position

IMO I think it was a combination of things. Frank was really really emotional about his son. Ive never lost a child, so I dont know what its like obviously - but you could see it on him when he walked out. My initially feeling during the walkout was 'Francis looks out of it'.

And regardless of what people will say - especially after the result - but Renan is 6'8 with legit power and decent boxing, and could have knocked frank out. Coming off the Joshua KO and years away from MMA he def had alot of pressure on him to get the job done.

I remember Eric Nicksick calling it years ago, around the time of the Stipe rematch.

He said that Francis had a disgusting GnP, and the day he will end up on top of a guy with wrist control, it will be ugly.

I'm glad Francis won, I had no idea Renan was making comments like that.

Francis is the king of HW and will be until he retires or loses! (It also helps that UFC is doing everything they can to fuck up and illegitimize their division lol).

This. They want to attract people who don't like fighting, so they add shitty reality-TV drama and the entire thing becomes unwatchable to people who actually like fighting.

Agree but this is the second time he's done this before it was against Gane I think he couldn't match the footwork and get in, nothing wrong with this as it shows he is fighting smart at this point and has more options now.

This is misconception my dude. Watch the fight again. Frank actually only attempted one real take down. The first time i was Gane's kick getting caught that led to a slam - and the takedown that ended the fight was Gane taking him down and getting reversed. I really just dont think people rewatch fights enough and let narratives tag control of there opinion.

Doesn't matter because he was all too happy to have top control, Francis didn't want to have a stand up fight with Gane he knows he would have gotten outclassed, Ciryl is a pro level kickboxer with great footwork something Francis doesn't have also to take it further Francis is not that good of a striker in a technical sense having KO power doesn't equate to being good at striking in that case Igor Vovchanchyn would be considered great but the fact is when he went against pro kickboxers like Hoost he got beat quite easy, same with Francis when he was matched with a pro level boxer (Joshua) he wasn't up to par in technical skills and lost,
does he suck at striking absolutely not but is not at the level of pros and he shouldn't box anymore.

What does talking about your opponent's dead child "in a fighting sense" even mean?

He wasn't even talking about his kid. He meant his combat sports loses. Ngannou accepted it
