This is my buddy Justin's first match with a black belt in a competition, and he's been beating himself up over it a bit. Justin and I usually both compete in the same weight class, but this was his first time stepping up to expert since i couldn't even compete, and he won intermediate at his last tournament. he gets caught with a triangle-armbar near the end of the video, but overall i thought he did pretty good; he took 3rd in the division winning his other matches. even came real close with a couple submissions that kept him close on the scoreboard. Also I've been watching this kid Renan Borges tear it up in this area for like the past year winning almost every division he's entered Gi, no-gi, and absolute. Even ended up taking 3rd at the pan-ams this year, and he's only 20, got his black belt when he was 18 or some crazy shit. enjoy
Justin has nothing to be ashamed of. Renan's just a monster. I think he did quite well against him, all things considered.
He (Renan Borges) is awesome! I saw a couple of his matches on youtube and I know he won Naga New England absolute division. Strangely he didnt win his weight division at NAGA and was actually submitted by a guy from the gym I go to.
Yeah, Renan won absolute but was later submitted by Ken Stone in the advanced. But, Ken didn't do the absolute and Renan was understandably probably a little tired from tapping people twice his size in the absolute. I would love to see them grapple fresh, not sure who I'd take.

Makes sense. I wasnt there and as I said before, I was surprised he didnt win his division but won the absolute. I always thought only the winners of the divisions get the chance to be in the absolute. I did hear that there were some big guys in the absolute though. As far as who would win between them, I have no idea.
lol, didn't he win black belt gi later on that day too? regardless there was $1000 on the line in that absolute, so i'm sure he didn't mind exhausting himself before his weight for that price.
