There were 13 months without a finish in nine title fights at Welterweight or below. That was zero finishes for 170, 155, 145, 135, and 125. (0 of 9)

For comparison MW and up had finishes in 60% of it's title fights over the same stretch (3 of 5)

....

Frankie Edgar is to blame :)

(hard to finish, doesn't finish often combination)

When you have GSP,Frankie and Cruz reigning for a long time. It's hard to get a finish.

Glad Aldo finished Mendes.People were starting to question his ability to finish.

Imposssibrruuu!!!!!!!!!!

The finishes were probably just toooooo fast for us to catch, thats it.
Also this "statistics" guy seems like a just bleeder white belt.

That really is a cool stat...maybe this will kickstart finishes in the lighter weights

Cool stat. But lets not forget that there have been loads of great knock outs in the lighter weight classes outside of the title fights.

All this does is show that it's just not every easy to finish high level fighters. Which should really put in perspective what Anderson and Jones do.

I wanted to see a McDonald finish, but I like Barao as well, so I wasn't trippin.

Makes you appreciate Jon Jones and Anderson

Was this really considered a title fight though?

He's not so much hard to finish as

Won't. Fucking. Die.

But as far as doesn't finish goes, it seems that his beautiful KO on Maynard was some 15 months ago.

I agree, and another reason why I think GSP cops way too much shit for simply dominating everyone.

There were also not very many title fights in the lower half of the weight classes. The Flyweight title is just a few months old, Cruz is injured, Aldo was injured, Barao was sitting out, GSP was injured, Condit was sitting out. Also there are just a lot of tough guys that are tough to finish.

But let's not pretend like size isn't a factor at all either.

Let's add Aldo's KO over Mendes and that's two finishes. TS' data is accurate, but only because Aldo's and Edgar's last finish wasn't counted!

No one comes into fights like Mir did against JDS at 155 and below.

This is going to continue (the decisions that is) with stiff competition in these weight classes the statistic doesn't surprise me. Glad we get to witness these great fights. Plus i may be in the minority that enjoys chess matches and hard fought decisions over Finishes.
