Styles make fights.

Tito feared Chucks sprawl and brawl style(after training with him) but probably figured he could counter Randys clinch strikes and greco takedowns and score takedowns of his own, work from the top and win a decision. Bad call in retrospect but hey, shit happens. His good friend(at the time) and training partner Ricco Rodriguez had beat Couture not too long ago at heavyweight so that probably factored into the decision.

Renegotiating a contract is a very good excuse. Didn't Dana tell Chuck to step down for the Tito-Shamrock at UFC 40 fight? Chuck was not the No.1 contender until he beat Vitor at UFC 37.5. No doubt Tito ducked or stalled. Only question was how long.

He thought he had a good chance stylistically vs Randy.

Jones has proven to be a low PPV seller? Are you crazy? He has sold multiple 800k PPVs. Show me where Gus or Cormier have even come close.

White belts should be banned from making threads.

Also Jones is the current champion outside of possibly Rhonda who gets good PPV numbers.

Aldo, Cain and a few others do not do well in terms of PPV numbers and jones is actually a decent draw. Gus and jones need to be booked soon because these forums need the little sanity it had back.

nope. neither gus nor dc beat anyone who's ranked higher than the average jones-opponent. hell, between them, hendo and shogun are the two highest ranked guys they beat.

check this: the best guys beaten by those two top contenders are both 2-4 in their last 6.


also: tito fought once in the two years before the unification fight. jones fought 5 times in the last 24 months. with a popped elbow joint and a half ripped-off toe in between.

OK I can answer that by saying the exact same thing.
Tito thought he was going to beat up another old man(couture was in his 40s just like Ken)

Tito kept his title and Chuck lost to Randy for the interim title, and Randy later beat Tito to be undisputed.

That old man had just come off a stoppage victory over Chuck.

At least Tito was able to make it 5 rounds with him.
