Wonder how he still feels about it now?

DANA WHITE DENIES DISAPPOINTMENT IN PAIGE VANZANT DEFEAT: ‘THIS IS THE WIN-OR-LOSE BUSINESS’

There’s no denying that the Ultimate Fighting Championship has invested a lot of time and effort in promoting Paige VanZant in recent months.

It would only seem natural, then, that there was some disappointment within the promotion following VanZant’s loss to Rose Namajunas in the UFC Fight Night headliner in Las Vegas on Thursday – especially on the heels of Ronda Rousey’s upset defeat to Holly Holm approximately one month earlier.

If that is the case, UFC President Dana White isn’t about to admit it.

“This is the win-or-lose business. This is what these guys do. They go in and take fights,” he said. “We told Paige, ‘You’re young in the sport.’ She almost beat the s--t out of [matchmaker] Sean Shelby at the offices for telling her that.”

before long they'll cut their losses.
it shouldn't be any surprise that the ufc would try to promote an above average looking girl that seemingly can also fight. it's not going to work out and they'll move on to the next prospect.

Just funny how they became so focused with pushing fighters with "the look" over the last few years.

People love winners, this whole "oh, but they look great" angle is just ridiculous.

They are sub-par fighters, let the best fighters be your stars - not the best looking fighters be your most promoted.

The only reason he isn't mad is because she was beat by a cute Asian chick.

dana is a DAMN clown. You can't trust shit he says. I know I'm the sherdog GOAT but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know this.

This!

I never understood why MMA has become a beauty/popularity contest. It's MMA, not a cover shoot. It's the fight business. I care about your fighting abilities and your discipline inside and outside the cage.

And let's be honest, PVZ isn't all that. No chest. No ass. Face of a hyperactive teenager. I'll pass.

Why would Dana be upset? You don't put Paige in against Waterson thinking she was going to win. They have realized that Paige is only using fighting as a stepping stone to outside opportunities. What better way than to build up a legitimate fighter that has everything Paige has and a lot more than by having her kick Paige's ass. The UFC has a new women's star. They got exactly what they wanted out of this.

It's on Dana and the UFC if they don't think Waterson is marketable and all their eggs were being put in PVZ's basket. *giggity*.

Cut what losses?

She's not expensive and she will bring interest to tv or events in the future as DWTS made her a shit load more popular than most any other girl on the roster. You can keep throwing her out there and there and her name value will garner more interest than her opponents.

promotional costs.
the ufc won't promote a fighter to headline events (even free ones) that isn't at least working up to top 10 ranking. pvz has potential but you're not going to see much come her way if she doesn't at least put together a string of victories.

SHe got paid 43 grand. Helped fill the joint. DId solid ratings. Sure thing will be chill with the way it worked out.

Doubt he cares. Marketable fighters have lost over and over again. It only makes Dana have a sad in Sherdoggers' fantasies.

It's like I said somewhere in another thread: putting Paige against Michelle right now was the best matchup they could make, if they preferred PVZ to win, as Michelle was coming off an 18 month layoff and multiple injuries. If PVZ loses? She lost to a former champion who also looks great, and reaches demographics that PVZ can't. It was a win/win situation for the UFC.

If they wanted Paige to win they could've given her an easier fight than Michelle. Like Bellator with Michael Page, they keep giving him weak opponents and milking it for all he's worth.

Exactly. Look at Anderson Silva. He was a star from skill. GSP is the first and probably last fighter with the "look" to actually live up to his hype
