Got to visit my good friend Dax last weekend who is the biggest boxing guru I have ever met. He showed my tapes of who he said was the greatest defensive fighter he's ever seen. Was skeptical at my first but watch this guy fight; jesus he was amazing.

YouTube - Nicolino Locche - The Untouchable!

I found this good article on him:

Hope you enjoy the video of him. I had never heard of this all time great until last week; I almost feel ashamed.

Wow. In that video, he makes Cervantes look bad and if I remember right, Cervantes was no joke at that time.

Also smoked up to 50 cigarettes a day they say. His trainer would hold up a towell in between rounds and he'd puff on a cigarette. Obviously running in the ring was not an option lol! That's why he was right in front of you making you miss all your shots.

That was his rematch with Cervantes, which he actually lost by 10th round TKO due to a nasty cut. In the first fight a couple years earlier(probably still past his prime) he shut Cervantes out over 15 rounds on all 3 judges scorecards.

The best available footage of him is against Japanese warrior Paul Fuji. He looks absolutely brilliant in it. Maybe gets tagged flush twice through 9 rounds of near flawless boxing. Hardly any lateral movement at all, just great balance, uncanny reflexes and uppderbody/head movement, and some of the cleanest rolling and countering displays you'll ever see.

The fight in its entirety is on Youtube for anyone wishing to check it out.

Great bobbing and weavin. His low ko ratio depends on punching power and pot-shots style of fighting.

why did he have such a low ko ratio? style of fighting?

He just wasn't a KO puncher. He was a pure boxer, relied on countering and outboxing his opponents rather than throwing bombs looking for the KO. He rarely made mistakes because of it.
