Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Revolution : Inside BJJ
It is good to see more competitions, especially paying ones.
I agree that it is wrong black belts have to pay to enter the mundials, also that they should have prize money for the big show.
I can also see his frustration over Rhalan's experiences at IBJJF competitions (albeit how does a purple belt not know kneebars aren't legal?)
I do wonder why it has taken him this long to set up a rival tournament if he believes so strongly that the IBJJF ones are flawed. Rorion had already tried to do so with the IGJJF championships (and his rules had a coin toss in...) and they similarly weren't particularly well subscribed with competitors, especially elite ones.
and i hope whoever is running these tournies didnt have anything to do with Relson's comps at the arnolds...
and the rules the cbjj/ibjjf use have barely changed for a decade, so what is his beef now? it isn't the ibjjf's fault some people have developed highly specialised games.
# Only Red & Black belts can establish rules, # Only Black and high ranking Brown belts can referee must be a modern rule since there were no red/black belts in 1962, indeed there weren't any black belts either. I am also sceptical as to why it has to be 7th dan and above who set the rules, just seems to be the old guard wanting to maintain control over something they are losing their grip on.
i think his musings on the half guard are poorly argued.
no kneebars or wristlocks? i wouldn't say kneebars are anywhere near as dangerous as knee torsion attacks or heel hooks. and exactly who are the sambo players invading BJJ tournaments?
Shouldn't the brothers be making more of a concerted effort to spread Helio's vision of GJJ rather than getting into a p!ssing contest over sports BJJ rules?
