A father has been sentenced to at least four months in jail after forcing his pregnant 14-year-old daughter to marry the 24-year-old man who raped her.

“I love my daughter very much and I would never do anything to intentionally harm her or put her in harm’s way,” he said in court

His lawyer told the court his client may have had a “religious motivation” to impose the marriage after she fell pregnant.

Something's not adding up here. Did the guy actually rape her or was it consensual sex that is considered statutory rape? I've never heard on someone pleading guilty to a more severe crime and then they reduce it for no reason. It's creepy either way, but actually raping someone and a relationship with an underage girl are different things. Not sure what the dad was thinking here.

I get what you're saying and its an important distinction but this is still a pretty egregious case here. Its one thing for an 18 year old and 15 year old to get together but he's a decade older than her and she's about the age of a high school freshman.

Oh, for sure. Even if she was an adult, dude should get some time for trying to force her to marry. I don't think there is any spin on this story that would make it acceptable, I was just looking for some clarification on the guy's actual offense.
