RDR debuted this weekend and subbed GM3 in the third round.

Online fans are trashing him, mma media is questioning his striking defense. Seems like the consensus is he won't be a top fighter in the ufc.

Your thoughts?

To me looked like a mix of male Ronda and a grappling DDP: awkward clinch takedowns (like a judo guy fighting without a gi for the first time), chasing submissions at the total expense of position.

It's hilarious and fun to see that style and I want it to work, but I think he's going to get murdered in his next fight awkwardly reaching for the clinch while his opponent punches the shit out his face.

Looked sluggish to me, got clocked many times by one of the least athletic fighters in the division imo.. I said in another thread but I enjoyed his trip, the sub was great, and the knockdown was standout and up to speed... But you can't be taking multiple combos to the head from GM3 man, Shara Bullet would hit him like 15 times in a row unfazed.
Someone is gonna blitz him, i'm not sure i'd favour him over current Tyron Woodley lol.

Do I think he won't be a top fighter? Yes.
But I'll hold off judgement until he loses. I though fight after fight that DDP didn't have a chance, yet here we are.
So far, he has a prestigious record, and just subbed the sub guy in his division. So I'm definitely not going to bash him.

I mean shart was piecing him up on the feet is all you need to know.

Not very far. If GM is causing you problems in the standup you've got a lot to work on.

He was really impressive. Best Judo i have seen in the UFC. more aesthetic than Karo IMO.

And in his debut he taps out the best submission grappler in UFC middleweight history.

hope they match him up with Khamzat soon

the schart is unranked and it wasn't a clean fight. I think he could break top 15 but top 10 is going to be a struggle. I'm going to give him some benefit of the doubt since iirc these two have trained a lot so that has to have an effect on both guys coming in to this being familiar with each other's tells and stuff.

Why not hermanson or muniz?

then see from there. I dont see him going far but if he has a chance to develop a bit maybe he could show better. like play him slow and give him 2 years to get his game together.
I dunno, he's already 34. I don't know how much better his striking is going to get.
