So i'm confused about this deal.

Fighters can no longer sport their sponsors logo's etc, inevitably leaving most fighters sponsor less. They can't bring in a sponsor and are recipients of the uniform deal.

However, REEBOK is also sponsoring specific fighters too like connor?

    This sounds very interesting....

    i hope siver wins!

They wouldn't be sponsorless, they are automatically sponsored by Reebok. Other fighters that have drawing power just have side deals with Reebok it seems.

This will likely be good for unheard of guys, and great for the big names (except maybe MM, dat Xbox money doe). The people it will hurt are the ones that have some decent sponsors, but aren't top guys, like the Schaubs of the world.

Yea I'm actually interested in what the deal is with reebok sponsoring some fighters already... if those fighters will get over and above the "normal" sponsorship pay once the new deal kicks in then it seems totally unfair.

The Reebok deal will start July 6th, 2015. Starting at that time, when fighters arrive at the host city the week of the fight, they will all (cornermen and managers included) receive Reebok gear to wear to all fightweek promotional obligations and workouts. The pay will be based on the "official" UFC fighter rankings. The Reebok deal only covers fighters for the week leading up to the fight, fight night, and the post fight press conference (although fighters are allowed to wear suits if they want).

Out of fightweek, they are not paid by Reebok like the McGregors, Rouseys and Jones of the world. Much like the NFL how their official outfitter is Nike so during all official NFL business (pre-game workouts, game day, and post game press conferences), all NFL players can only wear Nike apparel unless approved by the NFL even though they may not personally sponsored by Nike. Guys like Richard Sherman and Colin Kaepernick are sponsored by Beats By Dre yet they cannot wear those headphones unless the logo is covered up because the NFL is sponsored by Bose. Caepernick, Clay Matthews, Cam Newton, and numerous other stars have been fined for not wearing league sponsored apparel for official league events.

Do you guys watch other sports besides the UFC? It's quite common.

Ding ding ding. They just have to wear Reebok apparel during fightweek, for official UFC business, and during the press conferences.

How does the deal effect individual sponsoring some guys have had good relations with their sponsors for years. And that product placement logo come fight night on a fighters shorts is crucial, it's one thing wearing a sponsors Tshirt at an expo. But it's a completely different thing when it's a televised or ppv event where millions could be watching at one time.

This whole thing is purely financial. I bet the UFC had to prove significant cashflows from sponsors in order to get financing, especially with their bonds being downgraded recently. The structure of the financing package they got around the time of the PRIDE buyout was conditional on Xyience's commitment. These concessions are probably what they had to give in order to get the amount of money they needed.

The live events are the super bowl of marketing for the former UFC sponsors.

Outside of the Octagon is not lucrative enough so that's why people are getting dropped.

I'm with you on everything you said. When I played football at Iowa State we couldn't even wear a non-Nike issued undershirt to PRACTICE.

All that I'm saying is that if you made decent money from tapout/dynamic fasteners/etc., but aren't top ten, the Reebok money will likely be less than what you made previously. The unknown guys hardly get any sponsor money right now, so it will probably be better. The champs/popular top guys will be well taken care of, too.

It's like how lebron gets powerade money/sponsorship, but has to drink gatorade on the sidelines.

Ding ding ding. NBA is sponsored by Gatorade so the athletes must drink gatorade during warm ups, game, and post conference but guys like Lebron have their own Powerade commercials etc. Gatorade famously poked fun at Lebron when he cramped up in the NBA Finals after a person on twitter put Gatorade on blast for failing to properly hydrate Lebron James by saying: The person cramping wasn
