What an ironic statement coming from an American. Next your going to be calling the French simple and the Japanese unfocused.

America is one of the freest societies in the world. Remember, Greece was highly enlightened, but they didn't treat their imperial subjects well under Alexander. The behavior of the American government leaves much to be desired, but America in terms of free speech culture, lack of racist laws, freedom of congregation and religion etc...is pretty enlightened.

Russia gonna Russ...

Russian social views aren't particularly modern.

Irrelevant. Many modern social views aren't particularly rational. His statement was directed at the intellectual nature of Russians as a people. That is just utterly asinine. Russians as a people are among the most intellectual and rational in the world. That isn't even a defense of their social issues which are significant. I am just pointing out that calling them collectively stupid or anti-intellectual, particularly coming from someone living among one of the most consistently ignorant groups on the planet is ironic.

Whats your point? He didn't attack the Russians on the basis of their totalitarian nature (which would be fair), or on there lack of broad acceptance of other cultures or people (again would be fair). He called them stupid which is ironic.

This is a teams competition event, everyone is dressed in outrageous costumes. The man in the banana suit and the Obama imposter are on different teams. The guy in the Obama costume decided to chase the banana man as a joke. Unbeknownst to them someone took a video of it and some naive employee at red bull decided to put it on their website, not realising that the slaves to political correctness would interpret this as symbolism for everything that is wrong with the world.

He said he didn't "expect higher planes of thought" from the Russians, you said as an American you find that ironic (the only way that could be ironic is if higher planes of thought weren't to be expected from Americans) and I pointed out that, in spite of the behaviour of the American government ala breaking international law etc, American society and culture is relatively enlightened.

Why would I do that? And why is my statement ironic?

In the U.S., we spend a significant amount of time debating racial and gender topics and striving for some semblance of social equality. An attempt at an enlightened society.

Nothing I've read suggests that Russia considers those things particularly important.

I don't even understand the French/simple analogy so maybe your entire post could be clarified? :icon_sad:

Actually, I didn't call them stupid.

And even if I had called them stupid, it wouldn't have been ironic. Perhaps you were searching for the word "hypocritical"?

Don't Russian soccer fans regularly throw bananas at black players?

It happens in European countries from time to time. I know it happened in Spain a couple of times, Italy as well. I don't think it's a good indicator of racism in said countries.

You guys are debating racial and gender topics, Russians have nothing to debate, they have their shit figured out.

Countries with highest number of female ceo's

Women in science. They don't even need quotas or affirmitive actions.

Russia is also highly diverse, i know Moscow is full of Chechens, from my contact with Russians it seems they are pretty integrated, maybe Rusk can tell us more about it. There is a bunch of religions, everybody's free to practice it.

Also interesting thing is they don't have social segregation like there is in USA. You don't have good and bad neighborhoods, you'll get a rich guy, a bum, a doctor, a carpenter living in the same building.

I may be wrong, but Russia sounds pretty awesome in these subjects.

Did you just use CEOs to argue a point about gender equality in the market? For fucks sake man. Female labor participation in Russia is lower than in the US. Also your second link concerned the soviet era.

I'm not sure whether you are trolling.

Blackface is still around and politically correct especially in Asia.

It's way worse in Russia bro lol They've had to shut stadiums down due to Russians.

Could you provide more information? Which stadiums were closed and by whom? Severity of punishment isn't an indicator of how big the problem is. Maybe Russians have lower tolerance and punish by banning audience, while Spaniards go for monetary penalties.

There were 2 cases of throwing bananas both in Russia and Spain. Monkey chants happen all the time in Spain and Italy. Don't really see how is it worse.

Russia - 80; USA - 82. The difference is negligible. Don't really see your point. Panamaican said they don't see social issues important in Russia, which is clearly not true.
Second link illustrated that they always deemed gender issues important. Things are the same now.

Not trolling. Russia is more diverse than USA.

You guys are giving Russia a hard time for things that are not true. Criticize them for their authoritarian nature and things like that, don't say they don't care about gender or racial issues.

This is the best part of that article, imo.

Russia is probably the most disgusting nation in the west, specially when it comes to racist. This is the nation that banned a football player for giving the middle finger to fans who racially abused him and made loud monkey noises. Worst bit is their football association release a statement criticizing the players behavior and then says there was no sign of racial abuse while you can clearly hear loud monkey noises whenever this black player on the ball

Well, if people really want to do something, boycott Red Bull here.

It would really be a show of American solidarity if Republicans would get behind their POTUS on this and holler 'Fuck Red Bull" as opposed to using this as some absurd example of the Presidents failed foreign policy.

Fuck Red Bull-Fuck them right in the Ass!!!If they want to hire or broadcast racist bastards to promote their brand in Russia, let them sell all their shitty overpriced caffeine water in Russia.
