about a week ago a huge study over 20 years done by i think harvard showed a large increase in cancer and heart disease risk for people that ate over 1/2 kg of red meat a week. i was just wondering what the communities view on this is. Personally i can see that eating lots of poor quality burger, bacons and sausages could lead to this but i find it hard to imagine that good quality cuts of meat have any signifigant health risk. Also it only pointed to a link, it couldnt prove cause and effect. so, whats the general consensus?

Also if you read 70% participants were obese.

Epidemiological studies are generally the least informative studies because they're almost always worthless. The ONLY time I've ever seen these studies foreshadow the results of more concrete and useful studies were when they did those studies in the 50s-70s on cigarettes and lung cancer, but those studies showed something like an 800% increased chance of getting lung cancer with cigarette consumption being the sole difference between the smoking and non-smoking groups. This study showed a 20% increase, which, even among serious people in that bullshit field, consider worthless.

What I heard is that if you really can't give up eating red meat, then you should eat more stuff which can protect you from cancer, like drinking more tea, eat more brocolli or something. So the effect on your body would be killed.

Don't believe any of the sources you read from the US.
There is a bit of media manipulation going on which is built upon getting certain corporations richer by feeding you this type of propaganda.
I'm not going deep into this, but just keep in mind that news sources from the US tend to be fabricated and profit driven.
