recommend me an audio player

I got a Cowon S9 (back in mid 2009 I think) after my Creative Zen Vision M broke. I still use it almost daily. Battery life has held up well. The power switch on it did break after about 2 years (I was being too rough with it) but got it fixed for about $20 and it hasn't broken again.

I looked into non-Apple mp3 players, but read too many reviews re: them breaking, so ended up buying a sturdy looking metal iPod Shuffle for $49 after seeing people praise the quality. No problems. Problems with iTunes I read from others are likely from those people being not so smart and/or negative Nancy whiners.

The only thing with the iPod Shuffle is I don't know if it can do separate playlists.

It's called a phone.

Maybe his phone doesn't have a magical power supply so he wants to save his phone's battery for phone calls and have a separately powered device for music.
