Not sure if this thread will go any where but, if anyone wants to give updates on any major Knockdown Karate tournament go ahead and post it here. It can be Kyokushin (IKO1, WKO Shinkyokushin, IFK, ext.), Ashihara (AIKO and NIKO), Enshin (The Enshin Sabaki Challenge tournaments), and World Oyama Karate tournaments. Other knockdown karate tournaments not listed are encouraged but, major international or national tournaments are preferred. However we aren’t the gestapo, if you want to talk about some local tournaments please feel free. From my understanding, the biggest international tournaments are the world championships and all Japan championships. Followed by the European, All American and other contental tournaments. These tournaments generally have 2 editions open (all weights) and weight category (weight class). This isn’t Universal but, it is the case for most styles and related organizations. If you are interested knock yourselves out.

Wow. I wasn't aware that the Sabaki Challenge events were still around. I remember when they used to actually be televised back in the early '90s. That's when I first saw the UFC's Pat Smith fight. I believe he won the '93 world title. But, then the UFC appeared on the scene & the Sabaki Challenge just seemed to stop getting any exposure at all. Which was too bad because it was pretty exciting to watch.

I don’t have a lot of experience in the scene. There was a point a couple of years ago were I was going to move to San Francisco for a job training program. I kind of wanted a change of pace so I started looking into Kyokushin over Muay Thai since I heard about a couple of good dojo’s in the area. I ended up not moving but I still have a fascination with knockdown Karate. I’m currently doing amateur kickboxing/Muay Thai and training to do a couple pretty big tournaments in the next year or two. Depending on how they go I will probably take time off kickboxing and train full contact karate for a while, since I’m in the SF area a lot for work. My coach is definitely going to want me to go fight pro Muay Thai but I don’t think I’ll end up doing that transition.

There's currently the Kyokushin World Union world cup going on this week.

Yesterday were juniors and cadets and the whole thing is on YouTube:

Starting tonight until the end of the week at the same event (KWU work cup) there is the cup of Senshi, a professional fighting tournament for adult males only and with more techniques allowed than standard kyokushin such as head punches, elbows and throws. More info here: https://kyokushinevents.com/event/the-cup-of-senshi-2019/

Also later this year is the famous IKO world tournament in Japan (open weight) which happens every 4 years just like the Olympics. It's on 22-24 November. November: http://www.kyokushinkaikan.org/en/news/2019/04/november-2019-ift-kumite-pre-registration.html

    Meanwhile the WKO (shin
kyokushin) will also host its own world tournament in Japan on 9-10 November this year: http://www.wko.or.jp/12wcdate/

Those are the 2 biggest and most prestigious tournaments in Kyokushin and should be streamed for free on YouTube as usual.

Where in The Bay Area you at? Pretty good options for martial arts in general here. North Bay where I'm at not quite as good for competition tho.

I’m also in the north bay. I was living in Santa Rosa for about 5 years, now I’m up north in the Ukiah area still training in Santa Rosa a few times a week and in SF with the Wooden man a couple times a month. I haven’t trained with Jongsanan in a couple months because I was dealing with finals and some pretty bad tendonitis in my right arm so very limited sparring/drilling and no pad work. Made no sense to travel all the way to the city just to hit the bag. I’m almost 100% so I’m going back to SF for the first time in a while to help prep me for the IKF tournament in Florida next month.

Thanks for posting this. Can we keep this updated with upcoming tournaments? Its hard to keep track of any tournaments now that Kyokushin4life is gone.

The best way is to keep an eye on the main organizations like IKO, WKO (shin kyokushin), IFK and KWU on their websites and Facebook pages.

In any case this year is a big year tournament wise as both the IKO and WKO have their open weight tournaments which are once every 4 years.

I'll try to update this thread from time to time.

The IFK British Open 2019 & 11th Cup of Europe 2019 will be held on 5th October. There's probably going to be a free live stream on YouTube.

There's also the KWU 33rd European Championship on 18th and 19th October.
