I've been personal training for almost 6 years and i'll be the first to admit i knew nothing when i started. I mean really...i knew just the basic body part split crap. But over the years ive gotten a chance to train with some really smart strength coaches and powerlifters and i'd like to think i'm a pretty good trainer. But i recently got transfered from my main gym (anything goes, chalk, chains, bands, thick oldschool plates...no rules) to the much higher end club (no chalk allowed, everything spotless, techno music 24/7 and the WORST hex shaped plates i have ever seen...) Here is what ive realized since i started working here...

1) People who get memberships at high end gyms are the worst people to train. They come in with no goals and no focus. They question everything you say and think THEY know better. Asking questions is fine but don't roll your eyes when i tell you to squat! (PS> getting "fit" is not a goal)

2) The trainers are garbage. There is ONE trainer at the gym who actually knows his shit and i figured that out when i saw him with a foam roller. The rest of thre are complete idiots who seem to LOVE cable crossovers.

3) No one does deadlifts. Everyone does quarter squats....Hammer Strength is king.

4)There are ALOT of smokin hot girls at high end gyms.....thats a good thing.

5) I have never seen so many BOSU balls in my life. My old gym only had ONE swiss ball and even that was losing air. However every bar was covered in chalk and slightly bent.

6) What on earth is wrong with training your legs? Why do so many people (especially guys) start training with me and right away say that they only want to train upper body? The excuses ive heard so far are "i play soccer so my legs are strong", "i've had strong legs since i was a kid", "I can do alot on the legs press so i don't think i need to do anything else"....damn...

and those are the only things i can think of. I miss my old clients...especially the guys who fell in love with 5/3/1 and now compete. I gotta figure out how im gunna survive in this place...gotta start training some of those hot chicks...

I have certainly seen better reasons. Mine would be... somehow seeing guido's in Kansas at the gym.

DB wrist curls in a squat rack.

Reasons why I hate threads like these.. There are too many

Little guys that think they are Jay Cutler. And curling in the squat rack.

and i made this thread because i just got back from work and im pissed...

are you one of the guido's from kansas?

Guido? hah. Stop complaining about what other people do in the gym and focus on what you're doing. You'll find you might actually make gains.

Oh i never workout at this gym...i just train there.

it is what it is man, you cant change the ways of the world

either adapt or find somewhere else to train your clients

i get paid more.....my saving grace.
I might not change the world but im sure as hell gunna do my best to change people's mentalities.

I found a pic of the plates the gym uses. I tried doing deadlifts and realized very quickly that its not possible...as you pull each plate starts to line up nad roll back to the flat spots....tried everything.....

Set the bar in position with the flat down so it doesn't move. Adjust your feet to get in proper position. If you don't set it down the same you might have to reset between reps, but that's not such a bad thing anyway.

it throws me off when i gotta set up my feet and after each rep because it rolls back or only one side rolls so the bar is on an angle. OR one side is flat and the other isnt and i pull with one side lower! its alot more annoying when you do it in person. I had the same positive thinking as you before i pulled....but after the set, it was the worst.

Yeah, I'm spoiled cause my gym has bumpers and an Oly platform that I DL on. But if you're stuck with that, it is doable I think.

I see now.. more explanation in the OP would have mad more sense

like i said, i work here but train at my old gym. My training gym has normal, york plates. Nothing fancy, just the run of the mill round plates. some are silver, some are black....nothing matches but everything works.
