Many fans are clamoring for GSP to return to his rightful throne by beating Woodley. As much as the nostalgist in me believes, the realist has a few questions:

1. Why wouldn't 3 years worth of ring rust be an issue? I realize if you've never competed in MMA, then ring rust is just a term. But fighter's know that it is real and can make a fighter look a former shell of themselves.
2. Does a second knee surgery (one on each knee and one post retirement) not affect him just because he is the GOAT at WW? What about the doubt he is sure to have since it would be his first time competing with his surgically repaired knee.
3. Would his fragile psychological state show up on fight night? Remember, last time he was in the octagon he took the worst beating this side of Matt Serra. Not only that, but it caused him to abandon ship has yet to set sail again since. Is he immune to the pressures and expectations that once chased him off the throne? Keep in mind, it was the pressure and expectations that sent him running for the hills 3 years ago.

Anyone care to answer these?

“I tried to explain there’s no such thing as rust. How much have I said that? There’s only rust if you don’t train enough. Remember, ring rust is nothing more than mental weakness."

According to Dominick Cruz. Gsp never stopped training

GSP is immune to needing the UFC or to prove anything to anyone.

WW GOAT and arguably the MMA GOAT.

GSP himself said that ring rust is real after the Condit fight

He came back stronger than ever after the Ko loss Vs Serra.

Gsp is mentally strong.
He had other personal problem when he fought Hendricks

Didn't Johnny Hendricks run him the fuck out of town?

Anyways, I would still favor him over The choosing one due to Tyrun's fights against Rory and Gastelum.
But this fight will be so bad for the WW division.

He's not going to come back. I wish he'd shut up and go away.

GSP is one of the smartest, most self-aware fighters in UFC history. He also works extraordinarily hard. He is basically OCD. If he is coming back he is surely aware of his physical and mental state. It is fully possible that father time has caught up to him, but I don't think he'd compete if he was a total shell of his former self like BJ Penn is currently intent on doing. Again he likely isn't quite what he once was, but if anyone knows exactly what they have to offer it is GSP. He is extremely realistic and hard on himself.

That was Pre-USADA Hendricks, right?

Have you seen Hendricks recently?

Why (regarding the division) did GSP say that he was leaving? Because the guys in the division were "too big", correct?

There's your answer for #3 right there little muffin.

Will he be able to finish a fight when he get back?

So it's better to keep him out, we already have Phil Davis.

GSP IS NOT GONNA FIGHT........WHY...... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.. HE MAKES TOO MUCH $$$ VIA ENDORSEMENTS AND PRETENDING HE MIGHT FIGHT. IF he fights and loses and loses badly there goes the golden goo$e. HE IS SMART TO NOT FIGHT AND HANG AROUND LIKE HE IS TO KEEP HIS BUZZ GOING

Moron, he had planned take time off before fighting hendricks. Had nothing to do with that specific fight, pressure or expectations.

He planned to leave his belt and retire? Did you see his face after the fight? Did you hear his post fight interview with Rogan? Did you hear, out of his own mouth, the reasons he retired such as, "pressure, expectations, doping, personal issues, not getting enough sleep, nightmares(of fighting Hendricks, I believe). The list goes on but you really should do your own research before resorting to name calling like we are still in 3rd grade.

Maybe he's immune because he has a really healthy diet

He shouldn't fight a top 5 guy immediately upon returning. Ring Rust is real.
