The way Seth would bamboozle limp arm attempts by simply keeping his hands 'sticky' and latching on as they go by is one of those things that look so simple and good, you wonder why more guys don't do it. Basically turning the position into an elbow tie shrug, or 2-on-1 drag down.
Funk rolling and leg entanglements have always had an interconnectedness to them; it's interesting to see convergent evolution at work.
The main confounding element on the spladle was the fact that RBY's torso was stuck in between Gross' arms, rather than outside. He could still keep a hold of it as long as his left arm was still in there in proper underhooking position, but not pin. To pin him there he'd needed to have pushed RBY's head out of the way while maintaining that hook under the leg with the outside arm, so you can shimmy up the back and crunch his neck in, exposing the shoulders. He took his left arm out first though, which basically meant there was no longer anything really stopping RBY from turning or kicking out besides a few fingertips.
