Alexander Volkov def. Greg Hardy Decision (unanimous) (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Fair in the 1st round but he got beat up the next 2, hurt by a head kick, just beat up to the body/head, bleeding profusely from his mouth and looked like he had a tooth knocked out too
Volkov played it really safe but I'm still impressed with Hardy nonetheless
So did he really lose a tooth?
I thought Hardy looked improved and did well considering his relative inexperience in MMA and his injury. Certainly was not overwhelmed by the moment.
He did much better than Lewis for 14:50. Plus he clearly couldn't throw 1 hand for 2 rounds.
I rate it poor. Volkov had absolutely no power behind his punches and kicks Hardy should've just kept on throwing bombs until 1 landed.
Hardy looked like a solid top 15 - scratching at the 10's
It was a piece of tape.
He needs better technique.
I thought he did a decent job. Unfortunately, his disciplined jab faded by the 3rd and he did a poor job reading Volkov. He would eat a body kick every time he tried lunging towards Volkov and somehow never learned the timing to block them consistently. He could also do with mixing some more low kicks in as well.
This performance at least showed that Hardy is improving each fight and he looked like he belonged in the cage with a fighter like Volkov, which is important. He's just not ready to beat a fighter like Volkov. I'd say he's at Tuivasa level right now. Keep him fighting unranked or low Top 15 fighters.
Thought he did fairly well.
His right hand was obviously fucked for round 2/3. Didn't see him throw it once in those rounds and he took those punches from Volkov well. His jab didn't look bad either.
Volkov is clearly just a better fighter though.
Good chin. Good toughness.
Striking skill is still really meh. Like I personally know guys with more fluid and faster striking. BUT his size, strength and power is enough to make him dangerous. Meh 285 lb guy > Good 185 lb guy.
well ... striking/boxing isnt as natural as grappling ... im not shocked.
According to who? Some people are naturals at grappling, while others are naturals at striking.
Besides, Hardy's takedowns were on the level of Black Beast's. That said, good performance from him. Hope he continues to improve.
Grapplig is more natural than striking imo.
Hard to say, because Volkov explicitly said he fought not to lose.
I rate the performance
..about tree fiddy
I think he deserves a “good” or as good as you can look getting 30-27’d. Those were definitely valuable rounds in the bank for him moving forward.
