Movies Rate and Discuss the Last Movie You Saw v.16

Alright in the theater by myself part 3 but for real this time

Going to see the new Final Destination. Will rate and review after.

Also Im seeing 28 years later tomorrow. Can't wait.

Edit: i walked out. 25 mins in I lost my interest. 4 people walked in. One person sat in my row about 5 seats away. I said to him you're fucking joking right? Grabbed my stuff and moved a row up. I was somewhat interested in the movie when I thought the lead was the blonde, then became disinterested altogether when everything i just watched was just a dream. The actual lead was dull and the acting in general was just bad. I dont have it in me to force myself to watch this.

Hard pass.

I did get to see the trailer for 28 years later which I do want to see.

your first Final Destination?

Open Range (2003) 6/10

Pains me to say it because I remember really liking this when it came out in theaters, but this hasn't aged well. The final scene is just a mish-mash of clips that make no sense with the physical layout of the town. They also do the dramatic slow-motion "final kill" like 3 times too many. The enemies being flabbergasted for some reason when he set his hat on the porch was comically bad. If you have fond memories of this movie like I did, don't watch it again.

Only saw it once in the theater. I just remember thinking Costner and Duvall were an awesome pairing. They did a good job. But I felt like the reviews made me think it was going to be something more substantial. Didn’t really flow. Plodding in parts. Good cinematography from what I recall, though.

All true especially the cinematography. Looks like it was filmed in Alberta Canada. Its a slow movie that clearly is just one long build up to the final fight but it just doesn't deliver as much as a movie like this needs to to succeed. The whole love story with the doctor was kind of lame too. "It's her brother!!!" Smh

The Big Lebowski

When I think cult classic, this movie comes to mind. Such a funny, odd, entertaining film. Bridges and Goodman were an inspired duo. Both those guys just get the Coens’ sensibilities perfectly. Buscemi, Turturro, Moore, Huddleston, Hoffman, etc. only add to the hilarity.

The plot is a funny, at times surreal, caper comedy with Bridges’ Jeff Lebowski, The Dude, being mistaken for the Big Lebowski, a wealthy businessman whose wife has racked up a lot of debts. When The Dude’s rug gets befouled by the people trying to recoup the money owed by the other Lebowski’s wife, The Dude goes to Big Lebowski to ask for money to replace it. Shenanigans ensue.

I felt compelled to rewatch multiple scenes after going through the film in its entirety. The Dude and Walter confronting Larry. “Is this your homework, Larry?

Is that your car out there?

Is this your homework, Larry?”

Too damn good. I’d imagine this is one of those “not for everybody” type of films but I think it’s ideal for fans of the Coens, of Bridges and of Goodman. Some of the best work of all four of those guys.

Just got done watching the new Final Destination : Bloodlines movie and it was exactly what I expected a Final Destinations movie to be, never having seen one before, a lot of brutal, bloody, gory death scenes with people getting chopped to bits and pieces in all kinds of elaborate puzzles of supernatural murder

I absolutely loved the opening scene that took place back in the 1960's with all those cool cars, music and gorgeous set pieces

The story was decent enough, I like how they retconned a running through line to explain the reason behind every single murder in every single movie in the series so far

I figure at this point, you know what youre getting with a Final Destinations movie so if you like that kinda stuff then you'll like this one

One weird thing, though, the dad and the son both looked oddly like Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

Plus it was cool to see a genuine horror legend get one more moment to shine before he passed away

5.2 Bloody Chopped Off and Grinded To Hamburger Meat Thumps Up Outta 7

I also need to find out what brand of e-mower they use in here because my shit cant barely chop a honey bee in half and this sumbitch is grinding human skulls into goo paste, thats the kinda power I need in my gimmick

The Assessment

directed by Fleur Fortune

starring Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen, Himesh Patel

7.5/10

A dystopian future drama where a couple undergoes a seven-day interview for the right to have a child.

Vikander was fantastic and Olson was really good. Tight script that didn't spell everything out, except one huge exposition dump that knocked my rating down from an 8. This is not uncommon in apocalyptic films but the writing was so disciplined everywhere else it surprised me.

I didn't expect much from this premise but it was worth seeing. This was Fleur Fortune's first film, I'm certain there are interesting projects in her future.

Terrible trailer that spoils a lot of what happens:

That's too bad.

I saw it when it first came out, and I remember liking it a lot.

28 years later - 6.5/10.

Will write something once I've let it sit for a while. I will say that the first 3/4 was good then kinda just went WTF for the last quarter of the movie. And the ending was bunk.

Are the previous 28 something Later movies worth watching?

Noticed Freevee's Lost Girls and Love Hotels is 18+ and my Apple TV digital version is R. In the process of seeing what's different.

1st one was amazing. 2nd one was good. Scariest type of Zombie are ones that are fast, these have that. Cool settings, eclectic casts. Do not confuse with 28 Days with Sandra Bullock. Different tone and genre lol.

Had WWZ in the background the other day, and decided to watch the first two 28 ... later movies.

First was kind of interesting and the 2nd was less so. But I am kind of interested in this next version.

May also be because I'm finally watching TLoU s2 right now.

Magazine Dreams

Dark and disturbing drama about a body builders obsession to get to the top. Amazing performance from the lead, and overall great production and cinematography. It's a pity it had controversy surrounding it, and the release, because this is an Oscar worthy movie, top to bottom. So many great memorable scenes. Meanwhile mediocre stuff like Sinners gets all the attention. Amazing movie.

The Next three days (2010)

Thriller starring Russel Crowe and Elizabeth Banks. I would describe this as a decent, watchable mess.

You have to really ignore the faults in the story for the general ride with Crowe as he tries to do the impossible. His preparation for this makes up the bulk of what makes this film interesting and when it gets the most creative.

Crowe's mission and all can seem very farfetched at times, and there are a few moments that snap everything back to reality. There is one very good moment like this in particular in the middle of the film.

However this isn't a consistent win. It can't decide if it wants to be grounded or poetic. The film will reprimand you for suspending your disbelief one moment and then have you rolling your eyes the next. Sure, this can keep things interesting, but it doesn't feel very coherent.

Crowe is perfectly fine in the role. One of those you could have just given to a lesser actor but he makes lemonade out of it. Elizabeth Banks can feel a bit miscast at times, but she has a few impressive moments here and there.

There are a few characters that could have been combined into one character. Also thought the ending was kind of flat.

I mean it's alright. Especially the middle chunk is pretty entertaining. The whole thing just isn't put together as well is it could have. I'd still recommend it.

There's also cool cameo from Liam Neeson

6/10 range

Scene with Neeson was my favorite part. It really felt like an ideal use of him and he made the most of that cameo. His scene also gave some sense of grounding and gravity to the improbable escape plan that was then going to play out. I don’t know how logical any of that stuff was but Neeson sure sold it like it was plausible. Crowe was very compelling. Damn good actor.

I like Banks a lot and wish we would see her in more roles like this- just cause I think she’s very versatile but isn’t always able to show that.

This definitely felt uneven and there were times where I thought it was going to kick into another gear but never really got there.

It was cool to be reminded Neeson can do some serious scene stealing instead of being the action guy he fell into.

Masters of the Universe (Dolph Lungren movie) 1 out of 10

Watched around half and boy does it suck. Looks like amateur made it and directed the camera shots. The actress who played Teela has fantastic curves front and back. There's just a slight resemblance to the He-Man cartoon designs. I feel it was a big mistake to tie the story to modern day human universe.
