Here are more messed up stories from Ontario now.

Remember when Doug Ford's gov decided to regulate Sports Betting in Ontario?
Well Chris Boucher from Raptors thinks Ontario's sport regulated betting scene has made it worse.

When it come to NBA/Sports criticism according to Boucher the sports betting has made it worse for NBA fan criticism.

Few bettors lost some bets in Ontario they went after attacking the players from the teams.

Attacking the players in sports for their loss of a bet is wrong.

Raptors’ Chris Boucher thinks sports betting has worsened NBA fan criticism

Toronto Raptors power forward Chris Boucher detailed some of his dealings with basketball fans on the latest episode of the Hustle Play podcast, revealing he’s received plenty of hate-fuelled criticism via social media. It is something he feels has worsened since sports betting became legal in Ontario last April.

And the betting is not going to make it better now with the parlays and all that.

I bet.

probably way more personal now.

It used to be “Go home. You can’t play with us”

to probably

“You motherfucker, you blew my savings. What have you got to say for yourself you piece of shit? You sold my parlay”

Part of the reason why I don't like gambling on sports I pay attention to. It becomes infuriating when you think you have the game won, but that ass hat linebacker gets the 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the fourth and long play. Makes you realize just how stupid so many pro athletes are.

Of course it's worsened fan criticism. Just read any losing team's twitter after any game. The comment's are flooded by the other team's fans and better's talking shit.

Try betting on sports with judging lol.

If you don’t want to receive hate on social media get off social media
Damn.

Best advice I've seen in awhile.

not gonna lie, i would have shit on zach lavine after not hitting a single 3 last night. 2 of those would have hit my parlay

I bet on the NBA every day. Picking winners and over under on players. Never have i thought that the players owe me something lol. Sometimes im 1 point away with 1 and a half quarters to go and the Coach subs the players out because they already lead by 20. That is bad luck. If you bet on games your kinda a idiot but if you then get mad at the players or anyone besides yourself your a giant idiot.

i'll agree with the guy that social media has given voice to the biggest dipshits on the planet.
i don't bet so i don't know how i would react, but it's fair to say if player x misses the shot that would have made you money, it's not improbable that you would hate that guy. it's obviously not something admirable though. better just stay away from betting i'd say.

Apart from most life-long leafs fans, toronto fans are fair-weather at best. They turn on the raps and turn on the jays in a heartneat when they slump, but are right there when the going is good.

That’s the point if you ask me. Supporting a shitty team while management doesn’t spend money to make it a winner is dumb. But that’s just my opinion.

For decades people were legally betting millions upon millions of dollars on these games in Vegas. For decades, people were betting millions upon millions of dollars on these games on quasi-legal online sites. For decades, Ontario regulated parlay betting on these games, which likely attracted substantial amounts per game.

But let me get this straight, the tiny province of Ontario begins regulating single game betting, and all of a sudden, something changed? Give me a break. People were always gambling. It's just more in the public consciousness because it's legal, and the books are big sponsors, and the sports now (rightly) spend time discussing gambling lines.

Not with the Leafs. If anything the fans are too devoted. The Leafs could go 1-81, and they'd still sell out every home game. The Raptors have a pretty consistent fan base as well, regardless of how well they're doing. The fans might bitch about them when they're bad, but that's universal. The Jays...yeah. They see big drop offs when they suck, and huge support when they're in the mix.

Depends on what you mean by attack. Criticism is 100% fine in my book.

Verbally attacking or tweeting at them, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that IMO. Fans pay their salaries. They are allowed to be passionate. Calling them a bum because you lost a bet - that is fair game.

Anything beyond that is too much (talkin about families, physical threats etc.), but not that.

why is this in the war room? what's the political angle?
My guess is that sports betting and media have come hand in hand in the past three years. Quite a few media outlets are funding massive amounts of money into sports media. Therefore, betting shapes how sports are covered.

If Big Pharma and the MIC's impact on the news media is WR worthy, then so should gambling's impact on sports media.

It's a media story, not just an athlete story.

Of all the problems associated with gambling, I would have to say that pro athletes being criticized ranks at the absolute bottom of the list.

what is the position/stance? this is athletes direct interaction with fans over gambling

I don't see where main stream media is involved
