These were 5 lopsided matches in the past 3 years where the odds were either close to a pick ‘em or the champion was a significant favorite.

How would you rank these performances?

Rose vs. Esparza(Rose -200 favorite)

Woodley vs. Usman(Woodley -175 favorite)

Stipe vs. Ngannou(Stipe closed as +105 underdog, about a pick ‘em)

Jan vs. Glover(Jan -250 favorite)

Whittaker vs. Izzy(Whittaker opened as a -145 favorite, closed at a pick ‘em)

Best performances imo of the champs:

1: Whittaker- Came to fight, lost to the better man, strategy was flawed in first fight. Made improvements in the rematch.

2: Stipe- Came to fight. Had a small margin of error to navigate and was not able to avoid being hit. He needed a perfect fight. No shame there.

3: Woodley - at least he didn't get finished, but he had to know he wasn't winning and it didnt feel like he "went for it" but rather he pretty much accepted defeat. Finally someone made him pay for his backing against the fence, so more props to Usman for his performance than anything, Usman is a beast.

4: Jan - I want to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was hurt or in danger of having his jaw broke, but he offered what appeared to be minimal resistance to that RnC.

5: Rose - absolutely fucking horrible, embarrassing. Gave her belt away because she wouldn't fight to defend it. I try not to shit on fighters, but I'll give credit where credit is due, and that was an absolute shit performance

Best
Izzy...Rob had nothing for him in the first fight

Stipe...i think everything was set by the UFC to have this knockout machine as a champ and Stipe just tooled him

Glover...i thought he got counted out big time here and in his last fight too. Glover is a killer...old but a killer

Usman...Woodley went 0-3 after this one and retired from mma and got ktfo by Paul.

Esparza...Rose shit the bed

That is the same order I have.

1. Whittaker came in confident for his Defense against interim champ Izzy, but the walkout, the fight, it just wasn't in the cards. He still brought it.
2. Stipe, I thought this fight was going to go exactly how it did after watching a rabbit hole of both their careers side by side and when Francis took him down I was like, oh boy Stipe is in trouble. But he stayed in the fight, made me think Ngannou might gas if it goes too much longer at one point, even might have slightly rocked Francis (though Francis said it just knocked him off balance), but then got reckless and finished.
3. Woodley, didn't get finished, had like one moment in the 4th or something like that, got to put him 3rd due more to the other poor perfromances.
4. Jan, Same as @jeff7b9 said, hoped for more, but minimal resistance in the end, a disappointing fight. However, I will say, one thing that doesn't get mentioned ever is that Jan apparently suffered some kind of neck or spinal issue a few months prior to that and I even want to say I read an interview where he was still not fully healed about a month before the fight. So the way that choke was applied w/ a neck/spine injury could make the quick tap seem more reasonable to me.
5. Rose, on par w/ Lewis/Ngannou for the worst fight of possibly all time, but considering this was a title match and her corner was telling her she was winning and following the game plan, I think you have to rank Rose/Esparza II as a worse fight than Ngannou/Lewis and the absolute bottom of this and any other similar list.

I put Woodley behind Jan because I’m giving the latter the benefit of the doubt, as well. Something just seemed off about him and doesn’t seem like the type of guy to make excuses.

Woodley was always a little overrated IMO and there certainly isn’t much you can do when your opponent is smothering you, but I felt like he didn’t go for it(his lack of volume was always an issue, though, nothing new). No sense of urgency with the title on the line.

The most money I ever made was on the Stipe vs Francis fight. You could see it coming from a mile away imo.

I couldn't agree more. Before they fought again I went back and watched all the fights of their career in order of date they happened, so Stipe had a lot more early, then they started lining up eventually. One stat that I found said a lot was Stipe had already have 11 pro fights and 5 UFC fights before Ngannou had ever made his debut. Then by the time they fought, Ngannou had mostly had short fights and Stipe had a ton of experience + title fights. It was the first fight in the UFC that Ngannou didn't smoke someone and he gassed fast. Yet despite that he battered Stipe a few times (in terms of just landed hard shots) and by the 4th and 5th Stipe was basically just holding on and Ngannou was too tired to stand up from his knees (Stipe dominated the fight score wise, but it told a lot). Ngannou could barely breath after the fight and could barely speak in the interview and that is the famous Stipe "madsfjkasd asdjflsd" speech because he got hit hard a lot. Then Stipe got KOed just 5.5 months later by 1 shot w/ DC. By the time they met the second time Ngannou had changed camps, he looked even deadlier some how and I remember telling people "it wasn't an overmatching of skills that lead to Stipe beating Ngannou in the first fight it was experience (and cardio)" and being laughed at, haha. It just seemed so clear to me that Francis would probably KO Stipe in the rematch.

Francis looked to be leaner and in way better shape leading up to their 2nd fight as well. That meant to me that he had to had been taking things seriously and was a big sign of things to come.

Incredibly close but not enough:
1. Whittaker

Small allowable margin of error with smaller octagon:
2. Stipe

Drops off a cliff dogshit performances:
3. Woodley
4. Jan
5. Rose
