Because Garry had a ridiculously close fight against arguably the best fighter in the division? That can potentially mean more than being undefeated against weaker competition.

I am not sold on Makachev's future at 170lbs. Islam never seemed like a big LW to me, and there are some pretty big WW's. Can't take anything away from his skills as a well-rounded fighter, but the guys at 170lbs hit harder. The uncertainties are Makachev's chin, his cardio, his strength, and the ability to gut it out against guys bigger than him.

I love the fact Islam's trying and not looking for the easy fight. But I think JDM is being underrated here and I believe this plays out like Adesanya vs Blachowicz. If Islam does lose to JDM, I really hope he doesn't just turn and run back to LW immediately.

The current crop of top WW's... JDM, Prates, Buckley, Garry, Brady, Morales, Shavkat (meh) will be around for the next few years. If Makachev does run and gun with them, it's a solid addition.

Wonderboy, Colby and Kamaru are each one loss away from reitrement. There are probably more questions about Belal going up than there are with Islam, but he's good for another couple fights and the UFC will feed him to the top WW's. MVP can't have too many fights left.

Wrote a whole ass article regarding the exciting state of the ww div rn and analyzing briefly each contender but my WiFi is lacking and it got scrapped. To sumarize, Islam has most likely picked the wrong time to move up, with that questionable chin of his and his physicality being leveled in most matchups.

Yeah to think Islam is a top WW is almost as big of a fuckin joke as giving Islam an instant title shot at WW while never fighting at WW in the UFC. Then consider that Islam mostly defended his LW title against 145'ers and it makes it an even bigger joke to give Islam a title shot at WW. Then consider how Islamb wanted Topuria to prove himself at LW before getting a title shot, and how Islamb is cheerleading for a title shot at WW without ever proving anything there is a bigger joke. Then consider that Islamb would get butt dragged by the top 5 at WW makes it an even bigger joke to give him a title shot at WW without proving it.

Because Garry is more proven, we know who he is and has faced better comp, there's alot of unknowns about Morales.
