Recently we've had some big winners - Deadpool and Captain America: Civil War stand out. But we've also had a lot of losers - some big, some just borderline. Some of the "bad" ones actually weren't horrible, they just fell well short of hopes and/or expectations. I'm curious to see which ones people rank as the best of the worst, and the worst of the worst. Here are the contendors, as I order them.

From worst to best:

1) The Fantastic Four
2) Green Lantern
3) Thor: The Dark World
4) Batman V Superman
5) X-Men: Apocalypse
6) The Amazing Spiderman 2
7) The Dark Knight Rises.
8) Avengers: Age of Ultron

So, rank 'em. Curious to know where people think the recent ones that didn't quite meet expectations stand.

Dark Knight Rises (best)
Batman V Superman
Avengers Age of Ultron
Thor 2
Amazing Spiderman 2
Fantastic 4 (worst)

Haven't seen the new X-men

I'd like to point out

Avengers 2 on Rotten Tomatoes has 75% critic, 84% fan score

The Dark Knight Rises 87% critic, 90% fan score

I don't know why they are grouped in as bad, since there is no evidence for it, outside whiny little minority fanboys who like to bitch. Neither were as good as the movies before it, and have flaws, but both are well made and exciting and the consensus shows that.

But oh well just pointing that out.

Haven't seen 'Deadpool' yet, but Marvel is fucking terrible outside of the 1st couple X-Men films. They are way too much style over substance.

Quoting my OP:

"Some of the "bad" ones actually weren't horrible, they just fell well short of hopes and/or expectations."

I think it's at least fair to say that neither of these movies quite lived up to the hopes for them, and it's reasonable to say neither one quite lived up to expectations. Neither is a bad movie, in my opinion - they just both got hugely overshadowed by their predecessors. Personally, I think both movies have their score inflated by release hype though.

Thanks for responding.

I think you like to take it up the rear. I could be wrong on that though. Thanks for contributing.

I did miss that my bad, still, i don't think they should be on a "worst of these bad movies" type of list. The others are good picks though as they aren't just disappointing but bad to horrible films. Green Lantern should have been on there from 2011. As that's actually hard to watch lol

Too bad your mother wasn't taking it in the rear when your father shot your worthless Marvel loving self into her.

Or was she?

Yeah, the headline is a *bit* misleading. The main reason I didn't put GL on there is that it had low expectations for it and it measured up to them. I was tempted to leave Thor off but it came out the same year as Batman. Batman had high expectations and it came up a bit short. Thor middling expectations and it was a middling to low end movie. GL? It was a wild card and it didn't deliver - end of story. Kind of hurt the future prospects of a decent GL movie by sucking.

Thor 2 was bad, i don't know how people liked the original i thought that was bad also. He's better in the Avengers films IMO.

If she was, damn was my father a stud and a half - eh? Mother has some serious rectal fortitude to boot. I must have an ass built like a bunker.

Go "style over substance" some pornhub while we talk. I'm sure someone loves you there.

Yeah. Thor is a ridiculous concept to work into regular Earth Marvel in general so it's a tough sell... And they didn't work any magic with it. I enjoyed both Thor movies well enough, but I haven't rewatched either. They're GL tier but I don't think anyone really expects more from them. Pity, because GL is an awesome intellectual property - one of the best DC has to offer.

Maybe GL should be added to the list... Hell, I'll add it to the list. It was only one year before the last two on the list.

The Dark Knight Rises in the same cesspool as Fant4stic? Come on...

Agreed. I actually quit halfway through Thor 1. It was terrible.

Yep. Whether you like to admit it or not, Fantastic Four had middling expectations and was a bad movie, and The Dark Knight Rises had high expectations and was a middling movie. Each one fell short of what was hoped for it so, both make the lists. Since I made the thread, my rules. Though I do find it funny that it's the only movie from the list you take offence to...

But, to be clear, The Dark Knight Rises was a vastly superior movie to the new Fantastic Four.

Make whatever thread and rules make you happy. The same rationale can be used to ask people to rank The Godfather III against The Human Centipede III. The answer is a foregone conclusion unless the person being asked has brain damage.

Age of ulron was garbage
I hated how corny and un intimidating they made Ultron.

He was basically just a one line machine who constantly got his ass beat the whole movie.

The original "no strings on me" trailer for that movie had me going in with high expectations.

Makes sense if you completely ignore the guideline of "Recent superhero movies that either fell short of expectations or sucked." But hey, movies that were decades apart and completely different genres - pretty much the same thing as movies from the same genre and in the past four years, right? Godfather and Human Centipede *obviously* has the same obvious frame of reference as a bunch of recent superhero movies...

I actually didn't mind the character, but it fell into Marvel's inability to create a *really* compelling villain on the big screen. I mean, hell, you look at Kingpin and the Purple Man on Netflix and Marvel obviously has it in them to create villains to create villains that do some heavy lifting. But theatrical releases? I swear they must be too busy trying to build their PG super hero teams to really risk anything with a high-stakes villain.

Ultron was an interesting character but a milsop of a villain. You want to see a big screen villain done *spectacularly*? Ledger's Joker is the obvious choice. Marvel is good at creating heroes and drama between them - but not villains. At least, not on the big screen.
