I'm not entirely sure of what the general consensus is on this subject here on Sherdog, but here we go anyway.
Chuck Liddell was very much a poster boy for the UFC in their early Zuffa owned days. With his affiliation and relationship with Dana being quite prominent, alongside the sheer fact that he was honestly a fantastic fighter, Chuck was considered by many to be the best Light Heavyweight on planet earth.
My opinion always was, always is and always will be, that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was better.
Not only did Rampage prove it on 2 different occasions in the ring/Octagon by finishing Liddell, but in several other facets also - such as strength of schedule and longevity.
Rampage Jackson was Evander Holyfield, and Chuck Liddell was Mike Tyson.
Quinton of course is no longer a relevant party in terms of Light Heavyweight supremacy or even contention. Moreover, the sheer fact that he's racking up small/middle tier victories in 2015 whilst Chuck went out on a 3 consecutive, brutal, knockout loss steak - speaks to the difference in career.
Rampage took Chuck's chin with that KO at UFC 71, Chuck was never the same.
Respect to The Iceman, I'm far from a doubter or a hater, but I think Chuck gets so much more love than Quinton does (as a fighter).
If MMA stopped today, and they had an all-time ranking list or an all-time Light Heavyweight list, I think Rampage would deserve to be ranked higher than Chuck on both lists.
Opinions and thoughts?
