I'm not entirely sure of what the general consensus is on this subject here on Sherdog, but here we go anyway.

Chuck Liddell was very much a poster boy for the UFC in their early Zuffa owned days. With his affiliation and relationship with Dana being quite prominent, alongside the sheer fact that he was honestly a fantastic fighter, Chuck was considered by many to be the best Light Heavyweight on planet earth.

My opinion always was, always is and always will be, that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was better.

Not only did Rampage prove it on 2 different occasions in the ring/Octagon by finishing Liddell, but in several other facets also - such as strength of schedule and longevity.

Rampage Jackson was Evander Holyfield, and Chuck Liddell was Mike Tyson.

Quinton of course is no longer a relevant party in terms of Light Heavyweight supremacy or even contention. Moreover, the sheer fact that he's racking up small/middle tier victories in 2015 whilst Chuck went out on a 3 consecutive, brutal, knockout loss steak - speaks to the difference in career.

Rampage took Chuck's chin with that KO at UFC 71, Chuck was never the same.

Respect to The Iceman, I'm far from a doubter or a hater, but I think Chuck gets so much more love than Quinton does (as a fighter).

If MMA stopped today, and they had an all-time ranking list or an all-time Light Heavyweight list, I think Rampage would deserve to be ranked higher than Chuck on both lists.

Opinions and thoughts?

Well duh he pummeled Chuck twice once when Chuck was on the verge of superstardom. War Rampage.

Rampage is better than Chuck, he cleaned his clock twice in his prime.

In fact his two wins over Chuck come in the best period of his career where he went 20-3 after starting his second UFC stint. Only other loss is to Couture which he avenged twice in that time.

But then you have to beg the question is Wand better than both or did the tail end of his career fuck it up?

I think some people would still rank him higher on an "all-time list".

Chuck would go into the Hall of Fame of MMA before Quinton, and that is completely wrong.

Quinton suffered from being the guy who was successful in PRIDE, whilst mainstream Chuck got all the love.

Rampage murked him without breaking a sweat twice.

Yeah, pretty much.

Chuck struggled against better strikers.

LHW is difficult to name a GOAT runner up. I get arguments for Ortiz, Liddell, or Rampage. Wandy...not so much

Good argument, although two wins over an individual doesnt alwayd make one better than the other, especially if and when fights are highly questionable, De La Hoya/Mosley comes to mind. But i do think rampage was better, yet wouldn't of ruled out nor do i now, that chuck could have won had they fought again.

rampage > chuck

edgar > penn

they fought twice, one guy won both fights. where is teh controvery?

Well, this is known, do you want validation?

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Man those early days of rampage in the ufc coming out to roy jones was some of my most hyped moments in MMA. You know Rampage was always going to put on a great fight and was liable to knock anyone out. I feel he could have been even better if he had a really good team behind him and he maintained his discipline because he was notorious for hating training. Those fights where he was in good shape and focused was one of the scariest dudes ever. That knockout of Wanderlei still scares the shit out of me.

definetly rampage was better than chuck but i think chucks legacy is of greater importance

You need Tito in yo list.
5 time defending champ which is second only to Jones. He has wins over Vitor and Wanderlei which are as impressive as any 2 wins by the fighters you listed.

I think Wanderlei's loss to Chuck wasn't all that bad.

People go on like it was such an amazing fight, and that it was super one-sided. Chuck won, and I would even go as far as to say, pretty easily. BUT, it was the intrigue that made that fight so memorable, not so much the fight itself.

Wanderlei smoked Rampage twice, and had that crazy streak, but he dropped down to 185 at the end of his career. If you take Wanderlei's last 5 Light Heavyweight bouts, he was 1-4.

Rampage and Wanderlei is an odd one, if you're ranking "all-time".

Shogun ranks higher than them all, anyway ;)

Shogun vs Rampage II NEEDS TO HAPPEN BEFORE IT'S ALL SAID AND DONE!
