Ralek Gracie, the nephew of MMA legends Royce & Rickson Gracie, announces a new international fighting organization named Genzai Freestyle Fighting. Genzai will be an open weight Grand Prix, with freestyle fighting rules inspired by Vale Tudo. According to Genzai, its mission is to be an authentic, and connected-to-the-roots of martial arts.

Genzai says it is “inspired by the living history that is martial arts and motivated to bring reverence to the whole genre.”

Genzai Freestyle Fighting
The Rules
The international promotion Genzai will utilize ‘Freestyle Fighting Rules.’ This ruleset meant to be a dedication to the “Golden Age” of combat sports. Remembering the rules of Vale Tudo (translates to “anything goes”) of Brazil and the rules of PRIDE Fighting Championship of Japan; Genzai says, “only a “few-holds-barred.”

Instead of doing multiple rounds, Genzai will have a single 30 minute round. This is meant to allow each athlete competing in Genzai Freestyle Fighting to have a level playing field, regardless of grappling or striking style, and regardless of weight.

I’ll watch but where will this take place?

Those Gracie family are irrelevant today, nobody knows who Royce Gracie was when there is Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal.

About this grand prix it will hur be a lay k pray system. Better to do Pride FC ruleset but with longer rounds.

Man that is going to be awesome. The rules. The 30 minute round instead of 5.

I don’t know if I hate the rules or a 5 min round for a sport where grappling is involved.

It just makes a bland watered down version of what mma was always and could be.

Another thing that will be good is the scoring as it will be scored as a fught. Not a 10-9. Boxing system where you can have all even rounds. And it’s scored for one or the other and a guy clearly dominates the last and going by a 10-9. System even though nobody did anything superior in the first two. So it could go either way.
it’s scored the same as a clear winner of the round.

As a fan forever of mma. there is nothing that interests me more than an event like this.

I don't give a shit about fighters. I give a shit about organizations. This thing is already better than the UFC.

I hope they have no referee interference. The idea that fighters can be warned for inactivity or running away is the worst thing about MMA.

I'm quite interested but fear it will turn out to be another shit show. Not that I don't watch many tertiary orgs already and could easily consider some shows of that category.

Anyhow if it's something I can (fairly) easily watch - the more MMA the better imo.

this is mma. The rules. The format the rounds. Man I’ve watched mma since ufc 2. I don’t know anybody who watched ufc 1. It was almost impossible to see.

my dad owned a small town satellite dish company back then and I could watch whatever is the only way I had the availability. I don’t know how anyone could ever see the first or many even the second live. Or even the third -12.

but this is mma. The best rules. I can hardly even watch old pride shows as when I watch the unified rules it’s like a handicapped sport. You can touch the floor with a finger or a knee.

It’s the equivalent or ric flair or any wrestler putting his foot on the rope on a count out. But this is like actual fighting.

It’s absurd to me. Sure I enjoy mma. But I can see all the flaws and how much the sport had retarded from knees or kicks to a gut with a knee or finger in the ground.

you could literally have a breakdancer with good endurance and he would win a lot of fights off of dq.

My uncle did cable, sat and co-op arcades. I saw em all till they were banned (yet ya could still scope porn).

I'll keep hopes up and see where it goes.

Looking forward to it. All things considered, I would be pretty shocked if things go well.

could be amazing... in all likelihood we'll see some mcdojo guy fighting bubba mcdaniel or a guy who was 4-4 in titan fc as the best they can come up with
