R ppl really convinced volk can beat Islam or r they just trying to convince themselves?

If he rocks Islam early and avoids the resulting takedowns from a groggy Makhachev, then we're in for a very exciting fight.

If Islam takes him down without half a round, and keeps him down, it's going to be a bit boring I'm afraid.
 
Doesn't look like it. Even the people rooting for Volk have mostly been hoping for something abnormal to hinder Islam's performance. This morning there were a bunch of people trying to convince themselves that Islam won't be recovered from the weight cut. If it's not a game plan or an area he's better, then it's mostly just wishful thinking.
 
I think it's both. Some are looking for reasons, some are really reaching and it's pretty clear from some of the posts on here. However, there are a lot of people (fans and media) that are convinced Volk has a good shot or will win. Sherdog predictions has Volk winning the fight and they did a pretty good breakdown on it.
 
A lot of past and present fighters are rooting for Volk to win..
 
Islam in my mind can just run through Volk's offense and grab him. Short of a particularly effective punch, which Volk is capable of btw, I don't see any other course.
 
I don't believe that Volk can effectively defend against the grapping, the first round or two when he's fresh he might be fine, he'll probably have his chance to make something happen.

But I also believe Volk is a beast and a very smart fighter, and if anyone at FW can overcome the size disadvantage and beat Islam, it's going to be him.

I think people are rooting for him but know that the reality is that this is too large a task. I think he will be able to use movement to stay on his feet for long stretches but once he gets taken down he will be avalanched by GNP while having no answers on how to get up.

If Volk had quite a bit more power it would make things interesting as he should be able to hit Islam while they're striking. However, he couldn't really even rock fighters at 145. Islam should have nothing to fear but being outpointed.
 
Basically yeah.

I'm pulling big for Volk and I know this task in front of him may just be too much.

If Volk is on point defensively on the ground he could make Islam over-work himself into exhaustion, and beat on him in the championship rounds.

Khabib kinda did this against Conor but he knew he could take a round off because Conor's cardio is garbage.

Yeah, this is the thing. How can Volkanovski really win? He's not even a power puncher at 145, which is the only style that tends to transfer well up the weightclasses
 
Volk is game for sure...

Volks confidence leading up to this fight is wholly impressive.

Islam's relaxed energy and mentality is also a bit crazy,

It's gonna be a great fight!

That being said... Islam will show there are levels to this sport.
 
It's a pretty bad matchup for Islam. Volk is a great scrambler who is incredibly hard to keep down and also has insane cardio.
