To all them Brazilians out there, I'm just curious if there ever was a fight between a Brazilian and a non-Brazilian, and you rooted for the non-Brazilian?

Well, of course...

Let me think...
I guess Taisumov vs Alan Patrick...
Also Katsunori Kikuno vs Kevin (Even bet on him... Stupid idea)
Also Hunt vs Bigfoot (Specially after a theory where Bigfoot was landing a lot of leg strikes due to Hunt being injured prior to the bout).
Also, most of Rodrigo Damm fights. That dude really sucks when talking about fighting I.Q IMO.

Edit: First Damm fight was good (against Gasparzinho). But after that...

Yes. Most of Tiago Silva's fights, Vítor fights after the TRT shit and I would have rooted for Chael against Wand if the fight ever happened. Those are the ones I remember without thinking much.

I tend to support brazilians, but if they fuck up they lose my support. I can't support Anderson anymore, but can't root against him either.

I have no hate for americans or any other nationality. Rooting for Brazil is just something very strongly embedded in our minds, specially if we don't know the fighters very well. I would root for Saku over any brazilian though.

Edit: I also only rooted for Markes and Rodrigo Damn the first fight I watched of each. Then I gave up on them.

All gracies fights
Saku vs anyone
Wand Silva vs rampage
Wand vs crocop
Gonzaga vs crocop
Vai cavalo vs Overeem (did not like him at that time, like him today)
Minotauro vs fedor

Yes, but all this hatred of brazilians portrayed as fanactical patriots still boggles my mind here. It could be that we concentrate our patriotism in sports, while we usually are highly non patriotical in other aspects. Overall americans were always perceived by me as one of the people more brainwashed with patriotism - there's even that bizarre historical "messianism" of america - the very fact that they call themselves by the name of the continent is kind of telling.
Another way to look at it is the whole 3rd inferiority complex vs 1st world arrogance/dominance, which makes fans go over the top in both sides.

Weidman vs Anderson
Cain vs JDS
Conor vs Aldo is next.

One too many times...

Sherdog has this crazy illusion going that brazilians only support brazilian fighters.

I think it's cute.

We might not be the best subject pool. We cared enough to learn english and might have had contact with other cultures, more than out fellow countrymen. This type of contact actually broadens horizons and might interfere in our patriotism.
In general, we are very patriotic. And there's one other thing to consider. Patriotism doesn't always win when facing personal preference for a fighter. For instance, Wand fans tend to despise Belfort and the other way around is also true. So, my dislike for Belfort has me rooting for whoever is facing him.
A lot of Shogun fans hate Machida as well, and most would agree he's a nice guy. It's just that when you pick a side, the other side is your enemy. Mayba our soccer mentality boosts that feeling.

You have no idea how we are.

TONS of Brazilians cheer against Vitor, Anderson and Wanderlei.

I cheer for some Brazilians fighters, for some others i´m neutral, i want the best to win.

But to cheer against, like a hater, i don´t.

There is a big difference between the brazilian crowd behavior and our overall patriotism. Most of us root for locals and boo the foreigners, but any fighter get support outside the octagon or press conference things. Even trash talkers like Chael or Connor.

We don't hate foreigners. Our hostile behavior it's just a traditional sport thing. Nobody chant "uh vai morrer" (you're gonna die) believing or wanting this. And this kind of thing is more often in casual fans. If you saw brazilian mma foruns you would be surprised, there is a lot hate towards some local fighters

I like fighters regardless their nationality. But I tend to root for brazilians cause I know them more and it's easier to relate to people closer to you.
