    Ok heres the deal.. About 7 months ago I smoked a blunt on the regular like usual.. and suddenly my heart started beating fast and hard, all the symptoms of a heart attack.. Ended up in hospital and was told it was a panic attack. Days pass by and they come back and forth even after I stopped smoking and I quit that very same day. So yes I was maybe convinced it was panic attacks. I had ekg's done xrays done everything came out good. I was concerned that it might have been my heart but doctors kept declining anything wrong. Anyways up till now, my resting heart rate seems to always be above 95. When I get up it sky rockets to like 125-130. I went to doctor about a week ago ago, checked my vitals heart sounded fine. Ekg came out great so there was no need for an xray. Doctor does not want to refer me to a cardiologist. I told him I want to start exercising and he says its np. When I start to exercise my heart rate jumps to like 150 on stretches.. I jog for like 1 minute or less and it goes up to like 195+. Anyone else go through this before? And would it be safe to do exercise even though my heart rate always seems to be pretty high apparently my doctors says its ok but have anyone here been in a similar situation?? I don't get no chest pain or anything like that.

    That`s a very high resting HR.
    Now, assuming you have a HR monitor, start training below 150 for periods of 30 mins and build up time from there. If running shoots your HR too high then jog, if jogging is still too high then walk - actually, using a bike ergometer may be a better idea in your situation (easier to keep a lower HR).
    Keep doing that a few times a week and eventually your resting heart rate will drop.

    I seriously doubt you are checking your resting heart rate correctly. do it first thing when you wake up. That is when you are at your lowest level of activity and can get an accurate result. use a stopwatch or a clock. breathe regularly. find your pulse and count. I usually do it for 30 seconds and multiply by 2. If it really is 95 bpm there is seriously something wrong. you'd have to be a fat 60 year old man with hyper tension to be that high and then smoking blunts is the least of your worries.

    22 years old 5'11 165 pounds My heart rate at the time the doctor checked me i believe was 96, the doctor told me a "normal" resting heart rate ranges from 65 -95'ish. I have a heart rate monitor and most the time I check my resting heart rate is in the morning after I wake up. Don't even do much movement, open eyes reach for monitor and check. Then I check manually feeling and counting pulse. I ask the doctor if its safe to exercise with my resting heart rate already this high and he gave me the ok. I want to see a cardiologist though just to make sure. Usually when walking my heart rate goes up to about 145-150, when I go for a jog it shoots up to about 190+ never goes over 203'ish and thats only light jogging for like a minute or less. I start walking again and it drops back down to like 155-165. Before that first "panic attack" I used to train in kyokushin karate and muay thai 3 times a week just fine. I sometime notice my heart rate would be high all the time but never paid mind to it. After that panic attack I've been very aware of anything my heart does. maybe I always had a high heart rate and never noticed till the PA. Going to go see another doctor this week hopefully and see what he tells me.

    Addon: Also during the time of the first panic attack which was 6-7 months ago I stopped exercising completely, it could be my resting heart rate is high because of the lack of exercise but the thing that bothers me is why does it shoot up so high when starting my workouts.

    Start doing long walks while wearing your heart rate monitor. If you just walk, can you maintain a heart rate of under 140?

    yes just normal walking it usually doesnt go past 145

    Sir, im sorry to have to diagnose you, but youve got a severe case of being a dumbass. Its uncurable, and is permanent. Youre going to have to change your behaviors, and surround yourself with smart people so that they can prevent you from taking your own life if you have a sudden lapse in judgment. Also doing more recreational drugs-including alchohol, will worsen your symptoms.

    Asshole, I'm not here looking for doctor advice or anything like that, I'm looking to see if maybe someone was in a similar situation. So how about you go fuck yourself instead of posting useless shit in my thread? k?

    I pass by the hospital nearby me all the time during my walks. Been walking for about a week now and seem ok. Hopefully my damn resting heart rate goes down

    If you work for a company that provides your healthcare, I would find out if you even need a referral to see a specialist. These days a lot of company plans don't require one. If that's your situation, then go see one just to be safe because your #'s (if accurate) are rather frightening.

    Yes I'm going to try my best to get seen by a cardiologist. Always doctors Ive seen on this and I've seen over 3 different doctors all did not refer me to see one.

    People give themselves panic attacks with weed all the time. Be glad you didnt trigger something worse. Now stop being a dumbass stoner and wondering why you have terrible cardio. All these doctor visists are more than likely unecessary. You triggered a panic attack, now youre super aware of youre heart and worrying too much. Bad cardio + heightened cardiac awareness = you.

    Now that is more of a useful post.. anyways I stopped smoking ever since and thats 7 months ago, don't drink or smoke anymore. It could be bad cardio and bcuz i am more aware of whats going on with my heart. I kept seeing doctors because one side tells me one thing and other side tells me something else. Anyways I haven't had a panic attack in months last I did it it lasted not more than 5 minutes.

    Exactly. Any issues with your heart/chest are terrifying, and anxiety issues suck because it's all mental and it becomes a vicious cycle. A panic attack results in an elevated heart-rate. Exercise results in an elevated heart-rate. However, an elevated heart-rate DOES NOT mean you're having a panic attack.

    You need to break that connection in your mind that every time your heart-rate goes up, you're having a panic/heart attack. You're not. You did probably a dozen hospital tests more than you needed to and everything came back fine. Now it's just your head that's fucking you up.

    If the panic attacks are consistent and/or increase in frequency/severity, maybe try some Lexapro or something while reminding yourself before, during, and after your workouts that it's the exercise that's getting your heart to beat faster, not another panic attack.

    The panic attack phase ended about 4 months ago, it was during the first 3 months since it happened that it was hard. Now my heart rate is just always high, I've been doing workouts for about a week and notice my resting heart rate is more in the 81-86 area so i guess its improvement. Whenever I exercise and my heart rate is beating crazy it doesn't scare me or make me feel like a attack is going to happen. I just do my breathing and stay calm and continue on. The problem I want to figure out is why does it jump so high when doing simple things like streching and power walking. I spoke with a nurse friend of mine and she thinks it could be sinus tachycardia since its always above 95+, but I still want to see a cardiologist to make sure.

    I really don't think it is too much to worry about but I would definitely have it checked out by a professional. Maybe you should just stop smoking that paranoid weed or smoke under happier circumstances. Could also be something slightly more serious like an existing heart murmur

    Yeah, I stopped smoking ever since that first day 7 months ago. And I don't miss it one bit, alot of people in my family blow down all the time and it never bothers me or makes me feel like smoking which is a good thing. Anyways thanks for all who responded in this thread, my new insurance plan kicks in september 1st and I will go and look for a cardiologist who will see me without referral, if not I'll nag to my new doctor for one. I'll continue to do the light workouts that I do since I feel they do no harm and I never feel as if anything dangerous can happen during the workouts, in fact I always feel better the next day. If anything I will update in case there happens to be anymore people who are going through this or something like this and it looks like some are since some are PM'ing me.
