...even if they were gonna kill off Omar in the unglamorous way that they did (which I hated, but completely get), he didn't at least take out someone higher up and more important in the Stanfield crew than Savino? I mean, I liked his death scene and all, but guy is a nobody that we haven't seen since season one and they didn't even properly reintroduce him. If Omar wasn't gonna get to Marlo, then at least let him kill Chris, Snoop, Monk, or even Cheese.

Anyway, my personal choice if I had any say in it would have probably been Chris. He was Marlo's #2 and killed more people on-screen than any other character in the show. Omar dropping him would have been bad ass. And his death would have had an interesting consequence that I feel would have fit in the show, too. My explanation of it ended up a bit long winded, so I put it in spoiler tags instead, but hopefully everyone will read it and give me feedback on it:

OK, first a trip down memory lane: Bunk gets an arrest warrant on Chris for the murder of Michael's step dad (this scene actually happens right after Omar's death, so you'd have to screw with the timeline and switch it around to make this work), and they later use this charge to get Chris to confess to the murder of all 22 bodies in the vacant row houses with the guarantee of no death penalty if he does. Before he can serve it however, Bunk lets McNulty talk him into holding back on it until after he and Freamon get their secret illegal wiretap case going.

OK, with all that established and kept the same, this is now where my idea comes in: Omar kills Partlow and thus he inadvertently stops the police from solving a huge case that would have put 22 unsolved murders in the win column. The reason that interests (and amuses) me is because Omar always ends up burning the police every season that he kills someone. First with Stinkum in season one (he was caught smuggling drugs on camera, but was murdered before they could use the charge to get him to roll on anyone), then with Stringer Bell in season three (they finally caught Stringer on the wire after chasing him for two years, but he ends up dead before they can have the glory of arresting him... You might recall how depressed McNulty was in particular), and now Chris, whose death here would have prevented the closing of probably the single biggest mass murder case in Baltimore history. Omar's vendetta against a drug crew getting in the way of the police's own investigation would be like a running in-joke by this point.

Furthermore, it would have angered poor Bunk - Bunk would have been pissed at himself for letting Jimmy talk him into not serving the warrant right away, and it also means Bunk would have been even more annoyed at Omar (let's say he still ends up dying the same way later) than he already was after learning he was "back on the hunt" - Because when he finds the hit list on his body and sees Chris' name marked off, he would have immediately put it together that Omar of all people was the one behind the murder.

Btw, I'm probably gonna be posting quite a few Wire threads here since there seems to be a lot of fans here and there's nowhere else to discuss the show with anyone anymore. The only other place is Reddit, but I'm still a noob over there and haven't figured out how to make a thread yet lol.

Shut your whore mouth..

The Wire is perfect.

Perfect.

it was more impressive that Omar managed to evade and the attempts to kill him.

and the show and the story isnt about him, so no matter how much people like the character, he didn't need any last significant kill.

He got to kill Stringer frikkin' Bell.

If that ain't good enough for you, well, sheeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

Having any one but Slim Charles kill Cheese would have been a travesty.

"that was for Joe"

Slim Charles was the true VIP of The Wire.

He should have had a sad death like that. Every anti hero is a sad story that's unfulfilled. He deserved no icing on his death cake.

It’s all in the game, yo.

I liked the fact that it didn't play out how it does in most other shows. Omar's death was perfect and a genuine shock moment.

Most of all I liked the way the series showed that with street level gangsters, there's always a younger, hungrier kid on the come up. Heard iof similar situations in real life in the past.

I didn't love the last season, but they made a whole big deal in the last few seasons about young, hungry people always coming up, forgetting the moral codes of people that came before them. Having him get shot in the back over something stupid tied into that.

Also, many characters (Stringer, Snoop, Proposition Joe) had the same sort of death, where they go out on a short speech summing up their character before being shot. Omar's character was summed up at the end of season 1, it's all in the game, so it was fitting to remove the tense dramatization from his ending.

Kenard getting ready to burn a cat and then deciding to put one in Omar's head instead is pure genius

I watch that scene whenever I'm sad. Slim ain't no ceo type but he was loyal soldier

The replies ITT make me feel warm inside.

He took out stringer bell, that's like a Knight taking out a Queen.

lol Christ, learn to read, most of you. I'm expressing less disappointment in how Omar died and more so that he didn't kill a more major member of Marlo's crew on the way out. I was bummed that Omar went out the way he did, but I also get why they did it that way; Either way, that's a topic for another day.

If he did that would be fan service. They wanted to emphasize that no one is important and that omar wouldnt serve the justice he deserved because thats how the hood is.

So anything that fans like is automatically "fan service" now?

If that's the case, then The Wire delivered fan service plenty enough as it was, even in the last season.

O

If the wire delivered fan service

Dangelo wouldnt have died in the 2nd season
Stringer wouldnt have been killed in the 3rd
Marlo would have got what was coming to him
Duquan would have gotten out of the hood

lol Talk about missing the point. I never once argued that every good character should have had a just ending and that every bad character should have gotten their comeuppance, I'm merely discussing/complaining about one aspect that I would have liked to have seen done differently. I was just pointing out that your own definition of "fan service" was flawed because if you consider anything that we would have liked to have seen at all to be "fan service", then there were already a lot of that in the show already anyway. Omar killing Stringer or Slim popping Cheese at the end, for example.

Marlo became stringer=a thug who thought he could be a businessman but rally couldnt
Actually Marlo is nothing like String. String thought he was better than the game. Marlo is like Avon he wants his corners and is just a gangster I suppose

Except Marlo left the businessman party and went directly back to the street to take a corner.

What I see when I see you post. I see a man without a country. Not hard enough for this right here and maybe, just maybe, not smart enough to understand The Wire

Perhaps Omar being shot that way was the writer trying to show the senseless nature of the violence in the city. When a crab tries to get out of the bucket, another crab reaches up to pull him back in. Omar was out of the game and living in Latin America and Marlo killed Butchie to drag him back.

BTW - Have any of you tried to call Marlo: 410-915-0909
