question about WHOLE GRAINS

i was reading in some bullshit newspaper today, an article that was stating the correlation btwn white bread and kidney cancer...

anyways, in the article the author states that whole grains bread has a GI just as high as as white bread....any truth to this??
 
I've also read theat whole grain bread has equal GI impact as white bread. However, that's not to say it isn't healthier than white bread.
 
Interesting I was actually looking up the GI of whole wheat and whole grains just recently. They're not low GI but they are medium GI. Whole wheat bread is actually in the high medium range.

I have Ezekiel bread at home and it says it has a GI of like 40. Which is low.

Besides, just pointing out the GI is ridiculous. Nutrient density plays a big factor too. You get much more bang for your buck (or...quality nutrients for your calories) with whole grain bread.

ive never heard of ezekiel bread.
 
There are different levels of fiber in various brands of whole wheat bread. Some companies make a whole wheat bread that is basically 80% white flour & 20% WW, so it has a higher GI number.

Good quality WW in a higher ratio is the key.

If I'm not mistaken its that dense loaf bread that can be found at Trader Joes and other healthy markets. Its named so because it some Biblical quote that I can't recall right now which is prominently displayed on the wrapper... something like Go Forth and Make Bread That Is Real.

Ezekiel bread is actual whole grain bread. Alot of their breads are sprouted grain breads. Regardless, they have tons of whole grains. Its a wonderfully chewy bread that is complex with molasses flavors and crisps up nicely as toast.

Hey thanks guys... I usually make my own bread, but that ezekiel stuff is actually worth spending money on. Thanks for the reminder!!!!!
