Hi, I started eating healthier about half a year ago...

I basically eat low carb, and high protein. Ive been under the impression this was good, a normal day for me will include the following:

cereal with skim milk when I wake up

about an hour later, a meal, usually like a wrap using extra lean ground beef, or salmon, or chicken, with a side of fruit either an apple or mixed berries

i'll have a snack, usually nuts or something, maybe a banana

then another meal, similar to the wrap with fruit

perhaps repeat another snack and meal

similar stuff...

anyways, I was on this board with nothing to do and read an old thread stating that eating low carbs is bad for you. That its strictly for cutting weight and will reduce muscle

I cant say I work out, no time for it right now, I know its a poor excuse, but im leaner than the average person

can someone clarify how I should be eating?

Edit: oh yea, I should note that im not really trying to lose more weight. And add some scrambled eggs or hard boiled eggs into those meals :D

thanks for your help, ive been to that site before,

but my main question was in regards to a low carb diet being bad, which I read on these boards in a different post

it said that low carb diet is just for cutting weight and your body will use muscle for energy and reduce muscle.... or something like that

any truth to that?

it was something like your body gets energy from fat and carbs or something, and if you dont have carbs, it'll create it from your muscles and reduce muscle mass

Low carb dieting is the only way to preserve muscle as you lose weight, although there is speculation that massive weight loss will always result in some muscle depletion. Low carb is going to be high protien, and protein is the muscle food. I believe in lower carb diets, but with enough carbs to sustain good acitivity levels.

Low carb is ok, as long as you are getting still 4-6 cups of fiberous veggies a day( which basically have minimal carbs. Keep the protein up, and especially healthy fat levels above average if you are going low carb.

Low carb is not bad for you. Just make sure its low carb and not no carb. You're perfectly safe with your diet right now and I would in fact consider it high in carbs. Just make sure that you cycle on and off this low carb diet every 2 weeks or so, because eventually your body will get used to not having any carbs in the system and results will stop.
