I'm trying to figure out what happened to him in such a short time span that he went from his prime to a gatekeeper? He was literally top of the world 3 years ago and he's still in his prime age? Did he get injured, wth did I miss?

USADA happened. Also, he got way overrated because of his off the cage kick.

He fights in the most competitive and talented division. It's tough to stay on top in that shark tank.

He wasn't overrated. His wins over Bendo, Gil and Cerrone were legit as any other LW's run ever. He was a killer.

USADA happened. You can see how his body changed, then his confidence went, then his killer instinct went.

    i dont wanna accuse anyone

but his decline after usada is one of the most curious

that guy was legit as they come. i never expected him to finish bendo the way he did.

Rafael Dos Anjos was a juiced up beast and fought him in the perfect way. Then after that....USADA entered the arena.

This, plus people figured him out. Kinda.

Some guys have the skill set to neutralize his obviously great kicks, grind on him and dirty box his ass up. It’s probably the range that you need to fight him at.

He’s still a top fighter and he’s got a chance to get his title shot if he beats Ferguson. He’s not gone.

RDA destroyed him. Thats what happened. He got outclassed for 5 rounds in every aspect of MMA by a superior fighter.

In his case I really dont think it was USADA like for example Barao, Cain etc

He got some money, didn’t train as before, started to wrestle more then before for god knows what reason ( Martinez ruined him ), lost confidence. Also, put some unneeded muscle mass, which is not for the style of fighter he is.

He's fighting Tony for whatever reason and if he pulls this off he's right back in the picture. Yep

I feel like when most fighters drop off significantly as in the case of Pettis it is a mental thing and/or lack of confidence. Most fighters say fighting is mostly mental. Same happened to a lot of fighters (Ellenburger as an example). Lack of motivation can also play a part as it is hard to rebound from a loss.
