White washing has been criticized by progressives for a long time now (I agree with the criticism too)
But now theyre being hypocritical. If whitewashing is considered problematic, why is the reverse considered ok?

During the George Floyd Riots, white voice actors playing black cartoon characters was deemed problematic, but there is silence when it comes to this.

and before anyone claims Im crying about "reverse racism", Im not.
Im pointing out hypocrisy. I think whitewashing is cringe, but I also cant stand hypocrisy

If they ever decide to cast a white dude for a Shaft remake it more than likely would be me.

I don’t care that much and have no interest in the subject matter but it’s a stupid decision. Casting decisions shouldn’t be a distraction from the main subject of the piece - unless subversive decisions like this actually ARE the main subject of the piece. I guess if the latter is the case then there really shouldn’t be any bellyaching about the blowback. Comes with the territory.

This is a growing trend. They are doing the same thing with a Vikings spinoff by having the last Pagan King of Norway Haakon Sigurdarson played by a black women. Just straight disrespect.

I need to get funding so I can film my Jessie Owens Biopic starring DJ Qualls. If it does well enough, I have an idea for an Aretha Franklin movie starring Melissa McCarthy

These conversations always end up being silly. Because people ignore the long history of Hollywood whitewashing roles when whites were the key demographic. Now they're trying to get more minority viewers, so more white roles are being played by minorities.

If people weren't mad before they shouldn't be mad now.

It was dumb then and it's dumb now, but we aren't just talking about "roles" we are talking about actual historical figures. Conversely, if you were upset about white's playing minority roles (and historical figures) in the past you should be upset about this now.

My issue with this is that the reverse is not going to happen. People lost their shit when the ancient one was played by tilda swinton for “whitewashing” the role. This is an actual person that lived. There should be no wiggle
Room there
