So, it's 2020 and the United States is yet still dependent on Russian Soyuz rockets for the docking and transfer of American astronauts to and from the ISS. A whole lot of lovely cost overruns and delay (after delay after delay) by SpaceX and Boeing, the latter of whom recently pocketed an extra $200 million that they shouldn't of been paid -- for CCDev, they've obviously straight up hoarded countless billions on cost-plus contracts over the decades.

It's absolutely incredulous to listen to someone like Mike Pence... talk about going back to the moon. The country hasn't even had the operational capability to put humans into low earth orbit (alive) for the last decade. And on what, the SLS? Another pork barrel jobs program to nowhere with Boeing as the primary contractor. They've been living on legacy aircraft, rockets and rotorcraft for a while now, should probably cede doing any space / defense work for the government until the commercial airliners can stay in the air.

I am not really a yuge fan of some of the ultra-progressive ideas about the family and whatnot but I'd rather live under Merkel or Macron over Putin any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Also isn't the fertility rate of Russia plummeting just like the rest of Europe? So much for "muh family values"...

Fertility rates have steadily increased under his rule (Russia is roughly equal with the United States right now). They have stagnated for the past couple of years (prompting the recent campaign), but by no means plummeted. He has certainly over-turned the very negative (borderline apocalyptic) trend of post-USSR collapse.

Russia's real problem is their death rate. Putin hasn't really been able to truly tackle the problem of alcoholism. Life expectancy has risen a lot though, and the coming generations are probably bound to live longer, but the older generations are still pretty self-destructive.

The population isn't truly going to grow or even properly replace itself until Russians start living as long as people in the West.

No one opposed gender equality. It just so happens that in the old world there was little work fit for females. You have the benefit of living in a modern world where women hold many jobs (in the service sector), jobs which were unavailable many decades back as cities were still undergoing major construction work. Can your mom extract coal from mines whilst not seeing any sunlight for days or weeks? Can your sister work with metal beams at heights of 100 meters with no security harness?
