depends on how good you are with pushups I guess. The biggest problem with tabatas, as Dan John points out, is that they can be so hard that when you do them on a regular basis you begin to dread working out. as soon as you begin to start dreading your workout, you're a step away from skipping it altogether.
one thing about tabatas ive done is paced myself. sounds lame, but you set out to do a certain amount of reps and go all the way through. you should be able to get more benefit from it this way. when i did it balls to the wall my back was fucked for 4 days straight.
