Why when i am doing combos the partner i get paired up with last night for some stupid reason he was moving the pads towards my fist and hits then, its as if hes hitting down on it kind of but still mostly up right.. and this is just as i am about to make contact. nearly twisted my wrist as i kss judged it as he moved the tartget!....

is this a case of the guy being a prat and shoudlnt do it or would it help in anyway..!? i cant see it helping unless maybe my wrists get stronger!? but doubt it more get injured!

It's common for pad holders to "catch" punches like that. They should keep the pad squared up to you the whole time though. How long have you been doing pad work?

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but your initial post is pretty hard to understand.

He is doing it "rightly".

The pad holders are supposed to meet your punches. This gives you something solid to hit, and also makes for that satisfying "pop". Plus, if I'm holding the mitts, I'd rather not have someone fold my wrist in half, which is probably going to happen if you just hold your hand out to be hit.

I can understand the confusion as I just started training with pads a couple months ago. IN the beginning, the puncher is trying to focus very heavily and pad movement should be limited. But overtime, as accuracy and form take ground, the pad movement would matter very little.

I personally found it touch to adjust to.

If I understand correctly what you're describing, it sounds like the holder is using correct technique. Or at least, not incorrect technique. Look around for training vids or clips on the web, you'll see others doing this as well.

Your punch should follow the path of the mitt as if trying to punch through it to where it was before it was moved tward your glove. The mitt should move to much like 3 to 4 inches. And it should be square in the path that your fist is following.

You're supposed to meet their punch with the focus mitt. When I just started I'd hold out the pads and end up hitting myself in the face with them when someone hit hard. I learned quick. On the other hand you don't want to overdo it. I was paired up with someone the other day and He was practically hitting my gloves with the pads instead of me hitting the pads with my gloves. It really threw me off.

sorry guys , yea didnt expain clear but

I was paired up with someone the other day and He was practically hitting my gloves with the pads instead of me hitting the pads with my gloves. It really threw me off. just like as MT420MT said but he had thai pads on.. the long one you attached to your arm and as he was hitting me they were at a 45% angle nearly... i dont mind the pads/mitts moving but this was bad and any contact with my glove would bounce off and nearly sprain my wrist..
