Yeah Ulez is a dystopian nightmare. It's come off the back of already pretty authoritarian measures such as the congestion charge, parking cameras, bus lanes etc. And this is in a city with a fairly advanced public transport system that cannot keep up with demand and parking spaces that sell for as much as a house.

And now it's exponentially worse. The last time I was there, I was stopped at a red light and a guy on the side walk, took his shirt off and starting using a needle in broad daylight.

Oh, I know I am, bud. I'm usually indifferent about virtually every state aside from Zona (where I live) and the Dakotas (where I'm from). But California is undeniably special -- both literally special in many ways and also "special" as in full retard on plenty of other levels especially in regards to laws. It's an utterly incomprehensible mindfuck to a majority of the country on the outside looking in, even having been in and around there, up and down. It's like a straight-up country all and of its own to me. It's fucking nuts.

The sociopolitical 'empathy' for excessive levels of degeneracy has seemingly led to an outright public enabling of it that really looks more like apathy from the state's lawmakers in reality. The level of income inequality is so unbelievably extreme, addicts and bums shitting across the street from million dollar residences; the government corruption, incompetence, and waste is so far beyond belief. The state has allocated over $20 billion specifically towards housing and homelessness since 2019 alone and only seen a more than 30% increase of its unhoused population over that time period.

As an aside: People often say it's a non-factor and myth, but I don't believe the favorable climate along the coastal cities helps the situation at all, and it's as close to year-round 'ideal' as you can get. It's a hell of a lot more hospitable than a perpetual 115+F Phoenix summer, or well below freezing Upper Midwest winter. I was just over in the Mojave desert and Death Valley this July, not a single eye sore homeless junkie in sight. It was 128 degrees (53+ C).
