Program for my dad

For the squats and deadlifts, get him doing DB variants of both. They're easier to learn, and he'll be using lighter loads for a while. When he reaches using 65s, you can persude him into trying a bar since he'll have already built up some base strength in the movement. Should be a little confidence boost.

Step-ups rule, i just started doing them and they are wicked. should be appealing to him too.

i'm interested in seeing what you come up with, my dad is about the same age and i'm thinking of getting him a 2-3x a week routine of some sort.
 
Oh yeah, trick him into doing things t hat require a squat type movement and point out that it obviously isn't going to ravage his joints, as it is a necessary movement for life.
