I had to watch the split again. Just as Visma is about to start blasting REMCO is just about the last wheel on the peloton almost 10 seconds before the first man

why u do this to me man plz?? why?? <DCrying>

obviously the group 2 split means many big names lost about a minute. Here’s some guys that are essentially eliminated from GC today with over 5 minutes lost

Simon yates
Adam Yates
Lenny martinez
Arensman
Eddie Dunbar

Yikes.

Tomorrows finish is a little more punchy and follows 2 similar climbs in the final 10km.

I doubt any of the big 3 speinters in Merlier, phillipsen and Milan will make it.

I’m looking at guys like skeljmose, Girmay, MVDP, Ben Healy, pogacar, and roglic tomorrow

He also blew off some poor teenager after the stage who wanted an autograph haha.

Not the best day. He just messed up positioning. The back of the peloton is normally safe on a sprint stage, but this is exactly why you don’t do it with cross winds and reported big tight turns.

He’s gotta work on the positioning. I get that he and roglic are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to positioning, but he got caught out st the dauphine too. These teams are too aggressive and he’s too big a target. If he gets comfortable they will step on him, twist the foot, and flick his dead body off the GC standings in a hurry

Yikes.

The crazy part is that the dad (Sean Yates) was the rider causing splits in fast crosswinds. The elder Yates must have been cursing his sons watching that.

Sitting in the first 8 wheels when you are in shape is not that hard. Sitting 10th through 20th is just fucking brutal because the front elastic is always bouncing and everyone that wants to be in those first 8 wheels is around you doing erratic efforts to move up. You might as well sit in 30th if you can't be in the first 8.

I used to race witha guy that would hang off the back for the first part of the race and then when he decided to move up, he would solo off the front. There is a Jonathan Vaughters story related to this guy (related to Vaughters' NYTimes op ed).

Yeah, my understanding is the “washing machine” is where you don’t want to be under any circumstances. But Jonas and pogacar manage to stay out of it during the dangerous stages. I think a big reason roglic is so infamous for his crashes is he does not.

Evenpoel seems to be trying to stick towards the back when it’s not tense racing, but the problem is your in the first stage of the Tour de France and he really should have known better. It’s not that I don’t “get it” he just has to improve it because the best GC guys don’t make those mistakes right now.

I hate phillipsen so I’m bias.

But that was a clear deviation, Girmay had momentum until he was cut off by phillipsen. Phillipsen is dirty and should be shot into the sun.

But well done today

Naah. Philipsen is just the perfect blend off enough assholery for a sprinter, Bini tried to go where he did not belong.

Mvdp -> Groves -> Philipsen sprint train will be a hard one to beat
