it's harder to say with todays fighters because they just fly through weight classes. Usually though, the lightest a fighter can possibly be without sacrificing too much strength and stamina is the best weight. Fighters are human, they like to eat and drink, and then the age factor, metabolism slows down and forces older men to move up in weight, then there's the money factor, moving up to face stars in other divisions. But you do lose a lot, you could see it in the older fighters more than todays but even Mayweather doesn't look half as fast as he used to. Weight slows you down a lot.
