Prime Randy Couture would run through the current 205 division with ease

I'm pretty confident that the version of Randy who moved down to 205 and beat Chuck, Tito, and Vitor within a year would wreck the current 205 division in similar fashion.

We always talk about how the sport evolved and the fighters got better. But the truth is the evolution of the sport is mostly at the lower weight c!asses. I would say HW and LHW pretty much remained stuck in the early 2000s. I used Randy as an example, but the truth is you could make the same argument for guys like Chuck, Shogun, Rampage, Wandy, Little Nog etc. They would all give current 205 all it could handle.

Current division is pretty weak. while your argument might be valid, it doesn’t hold much weight given the current state of the competition.

lol.

he was a ronda rousey. a pioneer who was nowhere near well-rounded enough to keep up with where the sport was headed. Almost anyone with good TDD would be able to beat him these days. the 1st liddell fight was an anomaly. and that's coming from a fan.

Honestly I don't think this take is beyond the pale. Randy's game was not all that behind current MMA, stylistically; his style towards the end of his career didn't fair too well as it was predominately pushing his opposition into the fence without much tangible offense, but in his prime, his boxing was sharp, and he was a monster in the clinch. I don't think he'd do well against Phil Davis or Corey Anderson, but against UFC light heavyweights, I feel he'd put up a good run for sure. Fighters are much better at using the cage for their benefit to get back up and defend takedowns, but Couture wasn't exactly someone you wanted to clinch with, and at 205, he didn't have stamina issues.

He could decision them by holding them against the fence to death. Its possible. Glover is an old man from that era and he was champ.

Randy was a great game planner and i think if you tire even abit against Randy hes gunna pour it on and finish you...i see him stopping anthony smith...or outworking alot of the top 10 guys in route to a decision... like you noted Glover was champion and Randy was king when glover was still coming up

You not read good?

wrecking a weak division doesn’t really say much.

comprende retardo?
No I just did not believe there would be anyone treating Randy like that after beating everyone in this 205 division.
Good job old ass Randy but you should have cleaned it out while Jon was around! Into the trash you go! And by the way you are bald!

Jiri destroyers anyone @205, ever, ever... make no mistake about it the 6’4”/80” reach Prochazka even tools prime Jones (providing it’s a level playing field and he’s off the Tbol). We’ve already seen how Jones struggles with large MW’s or LHW’s that can match his physicality and length, Jones gets wrecked by the more talented Czech. Don’t let a terrible game plan, meh performance in his last fight, and recency bias impact your opinion, look at what Jiri did to Reyes who Jones struggled with... I know, Jones has been way past his prime in his early 30’s...lol, more like we saw how he performed off the sauce.

I could easily see him making it well into the Top 15, quite possibly into the Top 10 with the skillset he had and doing okay for himself. Not sure I see him running all over everyone in the division and snatching that belt, though. 205 isn't super deep right now, but it has a few tough customers all the same.
