u heard it here first
u heard it here first
new fan detected16-12 fighter vs undefeated fighter.
Oh, this is soooo hard to choose
to be fair, he lost a very close decisionPrime motivated BJ would destroy Machida.
stylistically fairly good match for bj, he'd win the first 2 rounds..if it went all 5 thatd be the questionThe one that broke GSP's nose and destroyed him in the first round?
I could see that.
Penn had great striking, great takedown defense, great takedowns, great BJJ, iron chin, flexibility.
He had everything except for cardio.
If we are talking 2004 to 2010 BJ I would say it is a very close fight. BJ could light Khabib up on the feet but Khabib would likely eventually score a takedown.
50/50 on this
New fans will say BJ has no chance but that is only because they never saw BJ compete with elite WWs and dominate the LW division.
wordI hate dumb fucking threads like these because BJ is my favourite fighter of all time. I honestly think skill wise he's one of the GOATs.
But these threads just attract people to shit all over BJ and his record (as if that means anything given his career path).
I'd give Penn in his prime a go against anyone within his weight class, he beat a seemingly unstoppable version of Matt Hughes, I still think he took GSP in their first fight and he smashed a Sean Sherk roided to the gills who'd never been beaten at LW. BJ paved the way for the lighter weight classes and the prodigy was an apt nickname, his athletic ability and world class skills in all areas was nearly unrivalled at one point.
I've followed BJ most of his career, was a huge fan back in the day and thought he would hold on to his belt for years. But no, no version of BJ comes close to beating current Khabib. The one that broke GSP's nose and destroyed him in the first round?

but marinovich bj was scary and could go 5
it's objectively a very intriguing matchup
i think context is everything , bj can be a strange case to newer fans, it can be very easy to miss the bigger picture unless you were watching during that time or have very strong fight iq / experience.I admit I wasn't really watching MMA during BJ's reign.
But please explain me how he dominated or when was his domination era.
I've seen his prime fights and yes, he was good - chin, striking, bjj, takedowns.
And yes, many times he fought bigger guys. Just like Moose, but nobody gives Moose credit for this, even though he has an amazing record.
He has 2 wins over Hughes, a win over Diego, a win over Sherk, a win over Gomi.
That's it!
I am not saying the other guys were cans. They weren't. But they weren't world beathers either.
Also, he never had a long winning streak.
He lost twice with GSP, twice with Frankie (in his prime, not counting the last one - 0-3) and the new guys caught up with him - Rory, Yair
Also, I would like to mention the fact that MMA evolved a lot.
Go watch his first fight vs GSP. He busts GSP up real good.I admit I wasn't really watching MMA during BJ's reign.
